This week is National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week: How much do you know?
What is National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week®?
National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week®, or NDAFW, is an annual, week-long, health observance that inspires dialogue about the science of drug use and addiction among youth. It provides an opportunity to bring together scientists, students, educators, healthcare providers, and community partners—to help advance the science, so that we can improve the prevention and awareness of substance misuse in our own communities and nationwide.

Initial evaluation of a peer recovery coach program in a large hospital system
Recovery coaches are typically individuals with “lived experience” of substance use disorder (SUD) recovery who have specialized training to help peers navigate the challenges of early recovery. While recovery coaches have been central to community-based recovery support services since their inception, they are starting to be integrated into mainstream general hospital settings. In this initial evaluation of a peer recovery coach program in a large hospital system, researchers compared how individuals fared clinically in the 6 months before and after meeting with a recovery coach.

SRC Impact: SRC and the Emergency Department
The Emergency Department program at UC Health Memorial, created by Program Director Daun Gillam and our Founder Cathy Plush, is a cornerstone of our agency. Hospital staff and clinicians have personally benefited by gaining a wider understanding of what living with an SUD can be like beyond what they learned in their clinical education. They have also learned of the many paths and resources to recovery available to patients.

Recovery Hero: Rob Decker
Hi, my name is Rob Decker. I just got 8 years of sobriety as of January 8th! I’m so proud of all I have accomplished. I learned how to walk again, got off drugs and alcohol, got married and had beautiful babies and reconnected with my oldest son, became a fitness trainer and recovery coach, became a speaker and an author.

Do you know a Recovery Hero? We'd like to meet them.
