And now for a slight diversion down memory lane .....
Bluebirds, window watching, nurturing …. These words triggered my memory of a lovely song from my early childhood “There’s a Bluebird on Your Windowsill”. When I set out to find more of the lyrics, what I found was even more interesting -- the song was written in 1947 by a Canadian woman who was a nurse at what was then the Hospital for Sick and Crippled Children (now the Children’s Hospital) in Vancouver. It was the first song by a Canadian to sell more than one million copies, born out of simple beautiful moment in the life of an ailing child. My mother’s favourite singer, father of Canadian country music, Wilf Carter, released his version in 1949 and as a preschooler I was introduced to this song, played on a portable record player on the kitchen table in our farmhouse! Find the lyrics and more information from the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame here.
Let the beautiful blues and creams of Bluebird’s Nest inspire you to create a quilt that celebrates the wonders of nature, and will provide comfort and nurturing to its owner.
