Roycemore Students to have the opportunity to create mural that will go to Japan next August

Kids Guernica-Nagasaki Peace Mural Project-September 23rd    &  26th
Roycemore will be participating in a global collaborative art project this month to commemorate the upcoming anniversary of WWII. Our students will work with Dr. Miyazaki, Professor of Anthropology at Northwestern University and Roycemore parent to 8th grader, Xavier, to create a peace mural that will be displayed next summer at the 75th anniversary of the commemoration ending World War II. Painting will take place after school that Monday and Thursday, however planning will begin at Camp Henry Horner. All students welcome!
Creating Homeroom Guidelines

On Thursday at lunch Mr. Stanley had two representatives from each Homeroom (grade) join him for lunch in his classroom to collaborate on the creation of Homeroom Guidelines. This was a follow up to work that was done in each Homeroom where students proposed guidelines for how they would engage with each other. The eight student representatives had a lively discussion and didn't quite complete their work but will reconvene this week to finish and we'll share what they came up with.
Hair Triggers
Girl Making Stop Sign On Defocused Background
What are hair triggers? These are ten things that all of the Middle School faculty have a consensus on that if they witness any of these student behaviors, they will respond immediately.

The Roycemore Student-Parent Handbook goes into much detail regarding the expectations of student behavior. All students are expected to abide by the handbook and our school’s Core Values: Respect, Compassion, Integrity, Scholarship, and Community. There are some behaviors, however, that warrant immediate action and intervention. The Middle School faculty are in agreement that if any of the following are demonstrated by a student that the faculty member will:

1. Intervene immediately,
2.Stop the behavior, and
3.Address the behavior appropriately.

HAIR TRIGGERS

  • Physical abuse/attack of anyone in the building
  • Racist/homophobic expression (verbal, or written)
  • Inappropriate profanity towards/directed at someone
  • Verbal abuse/violence (written/spoken and digital)
  • Intentional or deliberate disruption of class
  • Theft
  • Destruction of property
  • Failure to follow technology acceptable use policy
  • Bringing chromebooks/technology into Dining Hall
  • Possession of vaping/smoking, alcohol, cannabis etc.

Our focus at Roycemore is always to emphasize the positive, however, it is important that students understand the expectations of being a part of the Roycemore community and that while we want them to have a lot of fun, and learn and grow tremendously, they are expected to live within the boundaries that we have established.

We encourage you to find opportunities to talk with your child(ren) about these expectations and more importantly, our cherished core values.
After School Clubs & Activities
There is still room for your child to participate in a variety of the after school clubs! A new club this year is Robotics with Roycemore's own Dr. Dan Dudek! This is a great opportunity for our Middle School students and will be a lot of fun-- for girls and boys! We'd love to see some girls join the students in this picture-- and Dr. Dudek is a lot of fun! Next club is Wednesday after school!.

Another great after school offering specific to our Middle School students is Improv with our own Lizanne Wilson. She is amazing with the students and they have a blast! Next Improv will be Tuesday after school!

Both of these clubs are offered at $10 per session. To sign up, email afinleyodell@roycemoreschool.org or complete the attached registration form ASAP.

Is your child a volunteer? Check out this opportunity for a $1,000 Scholarship and a trip to Washington D.C.!
