Bud takes a seat on the bench
|
Just like Coca-Cola, Budweiser will be sitting out the Super Bowl. For the first time in 37 years, Budweiser will not be airing an ad in the Big Game. Instead of running an ad for Bud, the nation’s largest brewer will reallocate the spending to support the Ad Council’s coronavirus vaccine public education campaign. The spot, called "Bigger Picture," ends by plugging the Ad Council’s effort, while suggesting Bud will be back for the 2022 Super Bowl with the text, "See you at the Game next year."
AB InBev’s Super Bowl strategy is no longer solely focused on entertainment. They are seeing consumers as people, not as targets and want to focus on purpose and action. After the events of 2020, AB InBev’s brands plan to talk about what they stand for and the things that matter to consumers.
The brewer will continue to promote Bud Light, which is still the nation’s largest beer brand. The brand is currently running a campaign called “Bud Light Legends” that replays classic ads, including Bud Light’s role in the “Bud Bowl,” as well as spots from the old “Make it a Bud Light” campaign. The brand will also use an ad to plug the new Bud Light Seltzer Lemonade.

Even with the constant scrutiny and criticism, Facebook’s fourth-quarter sales jumped 33%. Facebook’s quarterly revenue was $28.1 billion, an increase from the $26.4 billion Bloomberg estimate.
As the pandemic continues, people are relying on Facebook to remain connected with friends and family. Small businesses that didn’t use the internet are now using Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp to get their messages out. The pandemic has also caused a surge in online shopping which is fueling the demand for digital ads on social networks. With people spending more time on their phones, Facebook’s monthly users reached 2.8 billion, beating the average prediction of 2.76 billion. Still, the company is uncertain of its future in 2021 and said it may not be able to grow as quickly in the second half, sending shares lower in late trading.

How broadcast will compete with digital
|
ViacomCBS and Dish Media have executed an addressable campaign in live national broadcasts through the set top box. The addressable ad replacement took place on live campaigns across Dish’s 9 million households in certain CBS-owned-and-operated markets. Addressable advertising is the ability to target and deliver messages down to a household level. For years now, the TV industry’s goal has been for national inventory to be addressable-enabled. Although cable networks have been addressable for years, addressable national broadcast just came to existence. ViacomCBS can now combine the reach of national broadcast with the targeted relevance of household addressable.
A CBS broadcast can now include a “marker” that will tell a Dish set-top box when to play targeted advertisements. The set-top box downloads the targeted ads beforehand and prepares them for the marker signal. The national broadcast will play its uninterrupted set of advertisements if the set-top box has no targeted ads. This technology uses marker signals from Adcuratio, with set-top box technology from Invidi. Mike Dean, senior VP of advanced advertising at ViacomCBS, says they performed the tech test for a subset of ViacomCBS’s market, but the company plans to roll out the technology in the future. Although the rise of cord-cutters and online streaming continues, the test will help reach an important TV audience.

Netflix, the world’s leading paid streaming service, ended its biggest year in company history. The company passed the 200 million-subscriber mark and said its cash flow will allow it to stop relying on debt to fuel its growth. Netflix now has $8.2 billion in cash and a credit line that hasn’t been drawn down. This means that it no longer needs external financing.
Netflix is now leaning more on international markets. The service has relied on Europe and Latin America to supply most of its new customers in the last few years. More than 60% of its customers now live outside the U.S. and Canada, and 83% of its new additions in 2020 came from abroad. In the fourth quarter alone, Netflix released popular series in German, Korean, Japanese and French.
Netflix’s “Queen’s Gambit” and “Bridgerton” were both major hits. “Queen’s Gambit” was viewed by 62 million households in its first 28 days, while “Bridgerton” is on track to reach 63 million accounts.

How are you doing with your Ps?
|
In order to effectively reach your target market you must understand the 5 Ps of marketing. The better you understand them, the better you will be able to attract customers. The 5 Ps of marketing are product, price, place, promotion, and people.
Product
Product is about being to explain every aspect of your product including its benefits to the audience, how it is different from your competitors, its features, its specs, and everything that describes your product or services. Your customers will only connect with your product if they completely understand it.
Price
Price is one of the first things that grab customer’s attention. The price must cover all of your expenses with a profit margin. Research the market and see what your competitors are charging their customers, then figure out a price for your product.
Place
In place, you need to be specific about how you will sell your products, how you will distribute them, and how will you deliver them. The goal is to reach your target audience in places where they spend the most time.
Promotion
Promotions are used to directly target the audience. Promotion is about figuring what marketing methods will be most effective with your target audience.
People
The people in your business play a big role in reaching your audience . Who are your employees? Do you have good customer service?

Get help from 'The Mouse'!
|
In my previous life, I worked for many media companies including the one headed by the Mouse. As a media rep., I noticed numerous times that companies buying directly without any outside help would be at a major disadvantage of the entire media planning and buying process. Thus, I created a company in which a veteran of the media world can provide a tremendous service. A solution where I can provide inside information on media planning and media buying to the degree that you can't get anywhere else. We targeted Presidents, CEOs, Regional Managers, Marketing Directors, CMOs etc. of small and mid-sized businesses. We then went to market with our 'key' differentiator and mission. The company has grown from 2 clients in 2010 to presently close to 2 dozen.
Entering our 14th year, Marketing Keys brings peace of mind to businesses having a former Disney/ABC executive with 25 plus years of strategic media planning, buying and selling on your side. To find out if we can help build on the results that you had started and eliminate the inherent disadvantages of buying media on your own, please reach out to us at roger@marketingkeys.com.
