Dear siblings in Christ,
This Sunday we will once again resume Eucharistic service. While it will be limited to the few ministers present at the service, we are nonetheless getting back into practice. This is a mere foretaste of what we all hope is to come. In all honesty, I can’t wait to get back into the habit.
Eucharist is of course a communal activity, and while we can’t invite all of you quite yet, this is one way I am anticipating that return. It will look different, it will feel different, but it will be the old habit, just some new features will be part of it for our collective safety. And yet I still find all this deeply hopeful.
And hope is what I have felt more in the past couple of weeks than I have felt since this pandemic first took such a toll on so many. In many conversations with our congregational leadership, we feel we’re entering a new phase. For much of my time as your vicar, we’ve wanted to simply survive, and not without good reason. Now, the time is nigh to begin to THRIVE.
My sense is that you all are ready for that too. We’ve felt distanced, we’ve felt distant, and we’ve felt disoriented in this time as a community. I know this because I have felt it too. And even though we will still do worship differently because the pandemic is not over, just the idea of seeing any of you in the same room, even with masks, even while distancing, helps feed my hope.
Together, we can do more than we can ask or imagine. God has given to us the Spirit of love, connection, and joy. Many of, though, during this time understandably may not have felt that sigh of the Spirit, the deep upwelling that comes from not just knowing but feeling that blessed Spirit. We still have time to celebrate Easter, but Pentecost is soon to come. My heart is ablaze with hope. I hope yours might be too!

All Saints Cemetery Clean-Up
Are you looking for a way to get out of the house and ease back into life again? Maybe enjoy nature, commune with God and/or a fellow Holy Cross parishoner, or have fun with Wren Ho (with social distancing and face masks)?
Holy Cross has been involved in helping to do basic yard work and some beautification projects at historic All Saints Cemetery (Episcopal) in Oceanside for a number of years, but we've been on hold for the last year. We are resuming this as social distancing is easy to observe while working in the fresh air at this peaceful and beautiful site. Please bring your own gardening gloves and a face mask (in accordance with diocesan protocols).
Katie and Wren Ho gardened today: Katie pulled weeds, cleaned up leaves, and trimmed tree suckers. Wren supervised from her olive tree, Olivania, and climbed Mount Everest! They will be there again, 9:30-11am, Tuesdays 5/4, 5/25 and 6/8 and invite you to join them! Stay Tuned for additional Ministry Opportunities
Our Wounded Warriors ministry has resumed with limited activity for the Battalion at Camp Pendleton. Currently, with Covid restrictions, we are authorized to have only one person deliver and set-up food and then leave. Tom Mauro, ministry leader, has been filling that role twice a month. We look forward to accompanying the food with lively conversation again once the Covid rules are eased. If you are interested in learning more about this ministry and/or signing up to participate when the ministry restrictions ease up and allow for more volunteers please contact Tom at [email protected] or 847.989.0305.
Additionally, your leadership is evaluating outreach and other ministry opportunities as Covid restrictions ease. While we have nothing official to announce at this moment, we are excited to see what you all might want to engage in as we try to understand the immediate needs of our campsite area. We know that this congregation can have a great impact because Holy Cross always brings with it the bold Spirit of compassion, care, and love. Open Minds, Open Arms will allow us to embrace anew our call to seek Christ in all persons. We hope to explore these with you all in the near future! Feel free to reach out to Rev. Bishop's Committee
Bishop's Committee ("BC") meetings are now held the third Thursday of the month from 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm. The next regularly scheduled BC meeting is Thursday, May 20th via Zoom. If there is something for which you wish to bring to the BC's attention, you may reach out to our Wardens, Karen Sanchez and Katie Ho, or any BC member. Whenever you have a concern or problem you would like to discuss confidentially, when a loved one is ill or has died, or whenever a visit with someone from Holy Cross may be of help to you, please contact Rev. Richard at 715.492.0297. Our clergy and members of our lay Pastoral Care team are commissioned to bring God’s grace and offer a time of listening, companionship, and prayer with those who are unable to attend worship or otherwise are in need of receiving such care. Short-term counseling, crisis intervention, and referral to other social service providers are also available.

Donation Items for Unaccompanied Minors |
Our diocese is coordinating a pastoral and spiritual care response for the 1,400+ unaccompanied kids currently housed in the convention center. As plenty of in-kind donations have been made at this time, the best and most needed way to provide support is by making a monetary donation. There are two ways to ways that Holy Cross can support the migrant girls:
Donate to South Bay Community Services (SBCS), which is coordinating all programming for the migrants, via the button below so they can purchase items for care packages. 100% of donations will be used to purchase items. Select either the "$200 - Provides care package for migrant youth” OR "Choose your own amount" (the other amounts support other programs), in the Donation Frequency Box, select "One-Time", and in the "Apply my donation to” drop-down, select Migrant Shelter.
Alternatively, you can make a donation to the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego (EDSD) in support of the religious, spiritual, and chaplaincy care they are coordinating for the girls using the button the below. Funds will be used to purchase religious materials, worship resources, devotional books, and other supplies. 100% of donations will be used to purchase items for the spiritual care of the girls.

** office hours: Sunday - Thursday 9 am - 5pm. Fridays and Saturdays are his Sabbath days. Rev. Richard will always be available for pastoral emergencies regardless of the day, but asks that you understand he will not be responding to general emails, text messages or phone calls on his Sabbath days as he is trying to get the rest that God requires of all of us. As a reminder, Rev. Richard is 3/4 time with Holy Cross and 1/4 time with St. Andrew's and his work hours Sunday through Thursday will support both congregations.
