SRHS Wishes You and Your Family Happy Holidays! and a Happy New Year!

 

Winter Break starts Friday, December 21st and goes through Monday, January 7th.  First day of class will be on Tuesday, January 8th at 8am. All students should pick up their NEW spring semester schedules from their Advisory teacher before school, stating at 7:45am.  After 8:15am, schedules will be available in the Counseling Office.

 

Please note, fall semester grades will be mailed home on Friday, January 11th, and will also be available to reference on the Aeries portal.

It's "LAST CALL" folks..... 
With the end of year just a few weeks away,  if you haven't yet made your 2018 tax-deductible donation to WeAreSR!  Do it today!  It's easy-simply click on the Annual Fund donation link and choose to make a one-time donation (tax-deductible in 2018), or if you prefer, set up easy monthly payments going into 2019!  Remember, WeAreSR!  is the umbrella organization that funds all of the SRHS booster groups, and a multitude of other programs and services that benefit your student!  Your support is vital-and incredibly appreciated!

Big Bulldog Thanks to Community Member Evelyn Lam! This local artist donated an abundance of her gift-wrap and cards to our hard working faculty and staff this week. Her beautiful designs can be found on her website HERE. We love our greater community!
SENIOR PARENTS ~ CAP & GOWN INFO
Each senior was provided a graduation planner at school this week during Advisory with information about ordering your seniors cap and gown, graduation announcements and accessories. Orders for the cap and gown, class ring, and graduation announcements may be placed online using the link below. 
 
 
The deadline for orders is January 15th. Every senior must order their cap and gown. If you have any questions, please contact Bill Reid from Jostens at 415-472-7871 or bill.reid@jostens.com  .

Student Travel to Cuenca, Ecuador

Travel to Cuenca, Ecuador with Global Student Embassy! February 16th-24th
Travel to a colonial city rich in native Andean culture, situated next to Cajas National Park in the Ecuadorian Mountains. Students will work alongside local partner High School Eco Clubs, learn about the traditional Andean culture from indigenous communities, explore the area's rich culture, art, food, and natural beauty. First Issue of OFF THE LEASH is Out!!

The first issue of  Off the Leash , the San Rafael High School 12th grade Journalism class publication, is out! It features stories about students, teachers, and community members. Check it out at  www.srhsoffleash.org .
Red & White Cavalcade!

The 2019 RED and WHITE CAVALCADE Talent Show is quickly approaching.  The talent show will be on  February 8th in the Hayes Theater starting at 7:30pm.  If your student would like to participate, please have them see Mr. Castle or Ms Deamer for details.   Auditions will be in January during lunch on B days in the band room.  It's always a real treat to see what amazing talents our Bulldog students have!!  
Spring Musical Announced!

Auditions for our spring musical THE ADDAMS FAMILY  are January 16, 17, 18.  If your student is interested, have them attend informational meetings during lunch in AR205 on January 9th and 11th.

Career Exploration for the Spring Semester

 

  • Spring 2019 internship applications are online by following http://bit.ly/2OLQ4r8 Internships are 8 weeks long (Feb 11th- April 5th) and students complete 48 hours at their internships. Please submit a resume along with the internship application.  Application deadline will be January 14th. Please email Ms. Nunez at anunez@marinschools.org if you have any questions. Some paper applications will be in the CCC but really pushing for online applications
  • Medical Internships : Students need:
    •  2 current TB test,
    •  a copy of their immunizations and
    • a current flu shot before undergoing orientation
  • Students who were interested in the construction class but are not seniors we have an ROP Construction course "Learn to Build" where all students are welcome to attend. No experience is necessary. Classes start January 9th from 5-9pm at Redwood High school. This is free to all high school students
  • Students who are interested in law enforcement or Law we have the Sheriff Academy for students to attend. This 2 days per week from 430-630 at the Marin Sheriff Dept. Academy students get an inside scoop into all the departments including, DEA, forensics, Search and Rescue, Defense and Tactics, Dispatch etc.

Build Construction ROP Course
Learn to Build Construction ROP course will begin January 9th at Redwood High School from 5-9pm. This is open to a grade levels, no experience necessary. Come learn skills, tools and work on projects that will help lead to great summer internships within construction
Parent Education & Community Learning Events
Courageous Conversations Parent Ed Night
San Rafael City Schools teachers, staff and administrators have been participating in Courageous Conversation workshops and meetings throughout the year. Now, we are happy to announce that there will be an "Introduction for Parents and Community" Courageous Conversation seminar on Tuesday, January 29 from 5 - 7:30 pm at the San Rafael High School Library. Courageous Conversation is Pacific Educational Group's (PEG) award-winning protocol for effectively engaging, sustaining and deepening interracial dialogue. Through their Framework for Systemic Racial Equity Transformation, PEG is dedicated to helping educators address persistent racial disparities intentionally, explicitly and comprehensively.
Challenge Success - Parent Ed Night
On February 6, 7:00-8:30 p.m., Challenge Success presents The Well-Balanced Student in the Hayes Theater. Challenge Success is a research-based organization founded by Madeline Levine, Ph.D., Jim Lobdell, M.A., and Denise Pope, Ph.D. that develops practical curriculum, conferences, and programs for parents, schools, and kids looking for a healthier and more effective path to success in the 21st century.
