Absences Due to Family Vacations/Trips
Family trips and vacations are not considered warranted absences, and are strongly discouraged because of the negative impact extended absences may have on a student's academic performance. (Parents and guardians are encouraged to plan family trips and vacations outside the school year).  Please refer to the Parent and Student Handbook  for more information.
Review Week and Finals are quickly approaching and it is important that your student does not miss these days.  Please make note of the dates below, which are in the school calendar and agenda. Please plan your vacations/trips accordingly.
Review week is Monday December 9th to Friday December 13th followed by Finals Week.  Please do not schedule appointments or take your student out of class during this time.  Important materials are reviewed to prepare for finals exams during this time.

Refueling Station for Students During Finals
As finals, the holidays, and the end of the calendar year approaches, San Rafael City Schools' Wellness Team want to encourage our community to mindfully reflect on how we manage stress. Across all three high school campuses, we will be posting our "Stress Curve" image (attached), to remind students about healthy vs. unhealthy levels of stress, and methods of coping or seeking support. Additionally, the Wellness Team and other campus staff will distribute healthy snacks and other relaxation-related items like essential oils, during the 15 minute break between final exams on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Our goal is to highlight to students that when stress is high, there are supportive adults available on campus, and that they can choose healthy stress-management strategies.

Here is an excerpt from a larger article, but some good reminders for all of us during this hectic time of year . When dealing with stress, it's helpful to manage the stressor by using "The Four As".

Change the situation
-A void the stressor
-Alter the stressor
Change your reaction
-Adapt to the stressor
-Accept the stressor

  • Set aside relaxation time. Include rest and relaxation in your daily schedule. Don't allow other obligations to encroach. This is your time to take a break from all responsibilities and recharge your batteries.
  • Connect with others. Spend time with positive people who enhance your life. A strong support system will buffer you from the negative effects of stress.
  • Do something you enjoy every day. Make time for leisure activities that bring you joy, whether it be stargazing, playing the piano, or working on your bike.
  • Keep your sense of humor. This includes the ability to laugh at yourself. The act of laughing helps your body fight stress in a number of ways.
  • Adopt a healthy lifestyle. Exercise regularly, and eat a healthy diet. Reduce caffeine and sugar, and avoid using alcohol or drugs.
Tree Lot Volunteers Needed!
Volunteer and support your class, sport, or club.  Every volunteer hour brings money back to your group.  No experience needed.  Both students and parents are encouraged to volunteer.  It's a great opportunity to get to know other families and get involved in the school community.
