Thomas Jefferson School

April 2025

To Our Thomas Jefferson School Families,

April has been both a great and busy month at Thomas Jefferson School! Students began the fourth and final marking period, spring sports are in full swing, and there have been many interesting learning opportunities!

On April 8th and 9th, the HSA sponsored a highly successful Book Fair for all grades. Students were able to shop and select from numerous literary choices to enrich their love of reading!

As part of the Force and Motion Unit for 8th grade, students took a field trip to iFLY in Paramus. While at iFly, highly trained STEM educators guide students through an immersive, hands-on experience that consists of: An interactive presentation on real-world STEM applications, Physics demonstrations in the wind tunnel, Lab activity and immersive experiments, Measure and record data and interpret results, and One-on-one flying with a certified world-class iFLY flight instructor.

Builder Bash - Families will be coming to take part in spring-themed design challenges using Legos on May 1st. Each family will be taking home a LEGO book. The event is free, and a donation to the food pantry is encouraged for the collection at the event. We are looking forward to another fun family night!

April was Autism Acceptance Month. Several teachers coordinated to plan for it, led by Mrs. Zangara. The month was recognized in several ways:

  • The Art Club made pins.
  • Teachers showed an Interactive Google Slides presentation to help educate our students at TJ and foster acceptance of Autism.
  • We put an Autism Awareness bulletin board up outside the office. Ms. Selikoff made infinity rings with her students to display on the board. The theme was "Autism Acceptance,” is an action. What are you doing to help it grow?"

Upcoming Events

  • NJSLA Testing will be administered on the following dates: (Please make sure Chromebooks are charged!!)
  • 5th and 8th Grade Science: May 5th and 6th.
  • 4th-8th Grade Math: May 7th-9th
  • 4th-8th Grade ELA: May 12th-13th

  • Memorial Day is Monday, May 26th - No School
  • Homework Help Club - Ends for the school year on Thursday, May 1st
  • Night of the Arts - May 22nd 6:30 PM-8:30 PM
  • The last day of school will be Tuesday, June 17th (Early dismissal - 12:45 PM)

Thank you all for partnering with our school and staff to benefit each child!

Dear Parent/Guardian:

As you are already aware, the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services has mandated that children born after January 1997 and entering grade six must receive a booster dose of the Diphtheria, Tetanus Toxoids and Pertussis, (Tdap) vaccine as well as one dose of the Meningococcal vaccine.

Once your child has received these two immunizations, usually at their 11-year-old physical, you must have the student’s Primary Healthcare Provider write a note or complete the form below.  The signature of the primary care provider and office stamp must be included.  Please be sure to return via hand deliver, email or mail to the school nurse by August 11th, 2025.  If you are unable to obtain these vaccines by August 11th, 2025  please know your child will still need to receive the vaccines before beginning grade 6 in September.

If proof of these immunizations is not received by the first day of school in September 2025 the student will be excluded from attending.

If your child turns eleven (11) years old on or after the first day of school, you have four (4) days after your child’s birthday to have your student immunized; therefore, the form is due the fifth (5th) day after the birthday.  Please make your child’s physical appointment early in order to comply with the law.  If the form is not received on time, your child will be excluded from attending school until the proof of immunization is received at the Health Office.

Please contact Mrs. Linda Savercool, your school nurse if you have any questions.

Thank you for your cooperation in this important matter.

Mrs. Linda Savercool BSN, RN, CSN
