To Our Thomas Jefferson School Families,
May has brought a flurry of activities for all our students here at Thomas Jefferson School. Students have completed state NJSLA testing, held a TREPS marketplace, gone on several field trips, and excelled in sports! As the 2024-2025 school year nears a close, it is worth noting that the students of Thomas Jefferson have grown and flourished into more prepared, mature, and capable young people. The students have carried themselves with honor and distinction. I could not have asked for a better group of students, staff, or a more involved and supportive community. Thank you to all parties for making this year in Rockaway Borough a wonderful experience!
On May 15th, the 8th grade class and a fantastic field trip to New York City. Students toured the Empire State Building and ascended to the top floor! They then ate lunch on a Circle Line Cruise that sailed around much of Manhattan and offered wonderful views. The next stop was the Tenement Museum in the Lower East Side for some remarkable historical learning. Finally, the group visited the Museum of Ice Cream and had a blast! On June 3rd, the 8th grade will go to the Pocono Valley Resort for a day of team building and outdoor fun!
On May 20th and 21st, we enjoyed the talents of our wonderful student musicians with two great performances! As always, Mrs. Love and Mr. Bova were able to teach and coordinate tremendous performances by our students and our numerous bands and choirs. The students did a fantastic job, and both concerts were well attended!
On May 22nd, our special area teachers hosted The Night of the Arts. This was again this year a huge success! Pieces of artwork from students across the district were displayed, and live music was performed by our students as well as Mr. Bova. The night was well attended as our community again showed amazing support for our students and our programs. Great job to Mrs. Isenberg, Mrs. Love, Mr. Bova, Ms. Selikoff, and Ms. Stein!
We were thrilled to host another successful TREP$ Marketplace Vendor Event, where each child set up a display and sold their handmade products to students, families, and the community. Over the last few months, students got hands-on experience with entrepreneurship and leadership in their Social Studies class. Key life skills the program focuses on include product development, marketing, sales, customer service, and money handling. Students collaborated on teams, made presentations, thought creatively, acted professionally, supported one another, took risks, and worked hard, all while having fun. We are very proud of our young entrepreneurs and appreciate the support from our administrative team, parents, and the community.
Spring sports were again a bright spot for Thomas Jefferson School Athletes. The spring run club was a positive experience for all involved and kept our students moving! Softball had a fun and successful season with a record of 7-8. Baseball had another incredible season, winning the Morris County Championship against Mendham Township! They finished the season 13-3. All athletes who played on any team throughout the school year were able to attend a Somerset Patriots baseball game on May 28th, which was a wonderful experience! Great job to all our athletes this school year!

Nurses Corner
It is allergy season - if your child suffers from allergies - please remember all medications must have a doctor's orders and must be kept in the Health Office. This includes over the counter eye drops and any allergy medicine they may need during the school day.
Please remember breakfast is the most important meal of the day, please make sure your child eats breakfast prior to coming to school.
Last but not least if your child is not feeling well, please do not send them to school. If a child has a temperature of 100.0 they must be kept home for 24 hours and must be fever free for 24 hours. If your child vomits during the night they must be kept home for 24 hours with no vomiting.
If your child has any medication, including epipens and inhalers I will need a parent to pick them up at the end of the school day on Tuesday June 17th prior to 12:45 pm. Any medication left after the school year ends will be disposed of properly.
When the 25-26 school year begins please download any forms and have your doctor fill them out and return them to me for the first day of school with the medication (a parent must bring the medication to the Health Office).
Have a safe and healthy summer break. See you in September 2025.
If you need to reach me - the best way is email: lsavercool@rockboro.org or office # is 973-625-8603 x 305.
Thank you,
Mrs. Savercool

Dear Parent/Guardian:
As you are already aware, the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services has mandated that children born after January 1997 and entering grade six must receive a booster dose of the Diphtheria, Tetanus Toxoids and Pertussis, (Tdap) vaccine as well as one dose of the Meningococcal vaccine.
Once your child has received these two immunizations, usually at their 11-year-old physical, you must have the student’s Primary Healthcare Provider write a note or complete the form below. The signature of the primary care provider and office stamp must be included. Please be sure to return via hand deliver, email or mail to the school nurse by August 11th, 2025. If you are unable to obtain these vaccines by August 11th, 2025 please know your child will still need to receive the vaccines before beginning grade 6 in September.
If proof of these immunizations is not received by the first day of school in September 2025 the student will be excluded from attending.
If your child turns eleven (11) years old on or after the first day of school, you have four (4) days after your child’s birthday to have your student immunized; therefore, the form is due the fifth (5th) day after the birthday. Please make your child’s physical appointment early in order to comply with the law. If the form is not received on time, your child will be excluded from attending school until the proof of immunization is received at the Health Office.
Please contact Mrs. Linda Savercool, your school nurse if you have any questions.
Thank you for your cooperation in this important matter.

We are proud of the efforts of our music students in the Spring Concerts, as well as those who performed at Night of the Arts. Bravo!
The Band program is finishing out the year with even more music making. The TJ Concert Band and Select Chorus attend the annual High Note Festival on May 29th, and perform for the 8th grade graduation ceremony on June 17th.
7th & 8th graders are encouraged to consider the High School Marching Band!
As the school year ends, students using a school-owned instrument on loan must return the instrument to school as yearly maintenance and cleaning will take place during the summer. If anyone needs an instrument over the summer, I would be happy to provide you with a store rental form, or contact me for help in obtaining one.
TJ Bands are generally made up as follows: Beginner Band-Grade 4, Junior Band-Grades 5&6, Concert Band-Grades 7&8. In thinking about next year, please keep in mind that students can also be placed by ability level and instrument need. So, advancement may be based on a placement audition in the fall. Also, seating auditions in the fall will be determined by playing level too. Best to keep practicing over the summer, so please encourage your child to do just that! Feel free to contact Mrs. Love if you would like recommendations for private teachers, summer opportunities, or ideas for individual practice. hlove@rockboro.org We also welcome students who would like to join the band and want to know how to get started in the program!
Thank you for another great year for the Band program. My hope is that your child got a lot out of the experience and that s/he will continue playing!
