Let's Toss Out the Name Tags
|
Now that we have been in lockdown or sheltered in place for the past several weeks, we have discovered a great new tool to keep in touch, called Zoom. Today, May 18, will be our fourth Monday morning “Coffee and Conversation” get together via Zoom.
|

Is it safe to fly? On June 5
th
, Sheila and I plan to fly from our home in Arizona, where we spend the winters, to our home in Michigan. Is it safe to do this? Is it smart?

The Primerus Optimistic Index

Primerus is at a cautious 8. Where are you? Stock market up and down a little, but basically holding steady. New York and US new Covid-19 cases on the decline. Economies in the US and globally beginning to open and improving. Still inadequate screening tests. Fear of Covid-19 relapse or second wave.

A few years ago, my son asked me how he could be “tougher.” At first, I told him he was tough enough already and sort of dismissed the question as another random thought from an 8-year-old. He persisted though. I asked him, “Tougher in what way?”

Good People Doing Good Things
|
“Those that live life with a spirit of adventure go where there is no path and leave a trail that may change the world”. In keeping with that theme, I’m pleased to share an example of a member giving back and making a positive impact on the world.

With restrictions on group gatherings and travel in force throughout the world, the courts are now expanding the way legal proceedings can be handled to prevent a shutdown of our systems.

May 19th - Artificial Intelligence (AI): Who's Liable? What Standard Applies?
The presentation overviews, (1) what AI is; (2) the proposed new liability standards for AI, including, notice, explain-ability/transparency, data issues in development, post-sale duties to monitor/repair, and ethics, both non-bias and non-disparate treatment; and (3) strategies to minimize AI liability.

Topics will range from employment, force majeure, insurance and other related items.

Ethical Consideration and Biases to be Aware of in Litigation
This presentation will focus on: (1) defining what constitutes “fairness” towards claimants as it relates to claims handling and resolution; (2) identifying patent and latent biases and attitudes, which claims stakeholders may possess (whether they realize it or not) that may impact fairness in claims management and resolution activities; and (3) strategies for eliminating these biases and attitudes from claims decisions processes.

Monday Morning Coffee with Jack Buchanan
Join us on Monday, June 1st for Coffee and Conversation. Due to the Memorial Day holiday in the United States, we will be postponing the next Monday morning coffee. We will be discussing some interesting new things
we are doing at Primerus these days including our new website design and our new “Virtual Law Firm” concept. In order to keep the conversation manageable, we must limit it to 15 attendees so that everyone can participate. We will do this on a first come basis. If you cannot do it this week, then please put your name in for a future Monday of “Coffee and Conversation.”
