Dear Neighbors,
Last November, a massive $1 trillion investment in U.S. infrastructure was passed by Congress and signed into law. Alaska will see the benefit of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for many years. However, eligible Alaskans can benefit immediately from the law through the Affordable Connectivity Program, which gives eligible households help with their internet bill. The Federal Government is working to raise awareness about the program because too many Americans are not taking advantage of the available help. In Alaska, it's estimated that up to 100,000 Alaskans are eligible but only 9,990 Alaskans have applied.
Specifically, the Affordable Connectivity Program provides eligible Alaskans with a discount of up to $30 per month toward internet service. For those on tribal lands, the benefit is up to $75 per month. Reportedly, most of the internet providers in Alaska consider the entire state to be tribal lands so eligible Alaskans should receive a larger discount.
Below is detailed information about the Affordable Connectivity Program. There are three different ways to qualify for the program.
- Your income is at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines.
- You or someone in your household participates in SNAP, Medicaid, Federal Public Housing assistance, Supplemental Security Income, and many other federal programs.
- You meet the eligibility criteria for a participating broadband provider’s existing low-income internet program.
Eligible Alaskans can apply for help through the Affordable Connectivity Program with a paper application or online at AffordableConnectivity.gov for the fastest processing.
