JUSTICE AGAIN OVERSELLS, UNDER DELIVERS
‘We still have the lowest personal income rates in the entire Southeast, as defined by the BEA.’
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Republican gubernatorial candidate Woody Thrasher is again presenting real, hard numbers in contrast to the exaggerated grandstanding of our gloating governor.
“Like most other announcements that come from Jim Justice, a glimpse at the man behind the curtain shows that West Virginia still remains far from victory,” Thrasher said. “Yes, we have had the highest percentage of Q1 personal income growth in the country, but it’s because our piece of that pie has been so small to start with. That 5.6 percentage growth took us from $74.8 billion to $75.8 billion. We still have the lowest personal income rates in the entire Southeast, as defined by the BEA.
“A closer look at the full tables from the
U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis
shows that in real dollars, we still have the smallest economy in the Southeast. We can thank our bustling pipeline construction, our strong Republican Legislature and the tenacious work of President Donald Trump for what growth we are seeing. But the real dollar growth Jim Justice is promoting simply isn’t there — just look to the 'arts, entertainment and recreation' sector to see an actual -0.02 decline in our tourism industry.”
