WILD ROCKIES
June 2023 Newsletter
We're so excited to launch three more courses into the field next week! Cycle the Rockies begins their journey on Monday, June 12th; Restoration Ecology and Conservation Across Boundaries launch into the field on Wednesday, June 14!

We are so proud of the effort and dedication of our WRFI students, as they step into unknown experiences and lessons about public lands issues, climate change studies, natural history observations, and more. We'll be keeping you updated along the way, so make sure to stay tuned!
Remembering Ben Warzon
On Sunday, April 23rd, Ben Warzon (2016 student, 2017 intern, and 2018 teaching assistant) passed away while on a skiing trip in Norway. Ben embraced all that WRFI stands for and lived his life with commitment to those same ideals. As remembered by long-time WRFI student, instructor, and staff member Maisie Powell, 'Ben brought light and laughter into every WRFI group that he was part of. Whether he was having a thoughtful conversation on a complex topic, partaking in a post-backpack dance party, or completing a routine task like setting up a tarp or cleaning dishes, Ben put all of his energy and focus into what he was doing, bringing other people in to help them see the joys of everyday life. Ben stood out as a leader amongst his peer group as a WRFI student. The WRFI staff watched Ben grow into this role as an outdoor leader as a WRFI intern and a TA, as well as bringing his skills to various other outdoor education organizations.'
The WRFI community will deeply miss Ben's laughter, energy, and spirit. If you would like to share a favorite story, memory, or photo of Ben, please feel free to send an email to wrfi@wrfi.net; if you would like to make a donation to WRFI in Ben's memory, you can do so below.
Fresh Out of the Field: Colorado Plateau
Our Colorado Plateau crew is officially out of the field, with final presentations completed, making them the newest set of WRFI alumni! We're so proud of the hard work they put into their academics and adventure over the entirety of the course. It was an honor to get to know them over the past two months. Congratulations to them!
