Three Early Soviet Journals of Western Literature

Beginning in the late 1920s, three Soviet publications featuring Western writers were published under different titles, initially in Russian for internal consumption and then through 1932, expanding not only in Russian but also for export in other languages. The significance of these early publications is understood by the retention of well-known designers (Aleksandr Rodchenko, Sergei Sen'kin and Nikolai Sedel'nikov) to promote these journals in the Constructivist style. Soviet publication of Western literature continued after 1932 but with a conventional design.

These three early journals offered below were published sequentially by the Organ of the International Union of Revolutionary Writers, changing titles along the way, beginning with Review of Foreign Literature ("Vestnik inostrannoi literatury") from 1928-1930, Literature of the World Revolution ("Literatura mirovoi revoliutsii") from 1931 to mid-1932 and followed by Internationale Literatur ("Internatsional'naia literatura") for the remainder of 1932.
