Three Good Things at WAIM

Updates on what's happening here at 866 Main St.

Hasta Luego to Our Pheonix Academy Colleagues!

On June 10, we said "see you soon" to our colleagues in the Pheonix Academy's Assisted Work Program. Twice a week, rain or shine, these young men and their coordinators worked at WAIM during the schoolyear. If you've ever donated items to WAIM at our Riverside Drive entrance, there's a good chance one of these awesome guys - or their classmates not pictured here - helped you out. In addition to receiving donations, they also helped WAIM staff and volunteers to organize inventory and get items for customers. We can't wait to welcome them back in the fall!

Windham Pheonix Academy is the school district's alternative high school. The Assisted Work Program provides staff-supported workforce development and independent living programming for students aged 18-22 who have completed their graduation requirements.

WAIM is proud to be a site for the AWP and several programs like it. We believe all people have the right and the responsibility to promote the common good in proportion to their capabilities.

It's Summer Fashion Season at WAIM!

It's hot! June 21 is the first day of summer, but the heat is here already. Help our community members stay cool by donating gently used warm weather clothing items, as well as fans and ACs. We have also seen a rise in requests for men's backpacks and new men's underwear.

WAIM accepts material goods donations from 9 am to 12 pm, Tuesday through Saturday at our Riverside Drive entrance. As always, thank you for your generosity!

Find Treasures and Support WAIM's Mission at Our Next Flea Market!

The next WAIM Flea Market is on Saturday, June 27, from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm on the 5th floor. All proceeds directly support WAIM's mission to uplift and unite our community by providing caring service and resources to meet our neighbors’ needs with dignity and respect.

There are only three more WAIM flea markets this year: June 27, September 19, and November 14. Get in while you can! If you see Kathy Callahan at checkout, tell her thanks for all the work she put in to make the day possible.

Volunteer Spotlight

Susan (right) has volunteered at WAIM for about a decade! When she is not basking in the glory of a historic NY Knicks comeback victory with Nilda (left), Susan can be found checking in WAIM customers at our intake desks. The intake team is the first point of contact between shoppers and the organization. They are vital for ensuring that everyone feels welcome here.

Volunteering allows us to contribute to the common good of our community and to our own development, as well. If you'd like to get involved, contact Kristin Fortier at 860-456-7270 x109 or kristinfortier@waimct.org.
