Three Good Things at WAIM

Pageau Trust Awards WAIM's Bikes for Windham Program $10,000 Grant!

The Leo J. and Rose Pageau Trust has awarded WAIM's Bikes for Windham Program a $10,000 grant for our programming in Windham! An estimated 13% of adults in Willimantic don’t have access to private cars, and biking can be an alternative form of transportation. Through the Bikes for Windham Program, WAIM collects, assesses, repairs, and distributes gently used adult and youth bikes for transportation and recreation. We have distributed 128 free bicycles so far in 2026, along with helmets and locks.

If you have a used bicycle that could have a second life with someone new with just a little TLC, donate it to WAIM Tuesday - Saturday, from 9 am to 12 pm at our Riverside Drive entrance.

Another Huge Back-to-School Program Contribution

Huge thanks to the Women's Softball Association of Greater Willimantic (WSAGW) and Willimantic Elks Lodge #1311 for yet another huge donation to WAIM's Back-to-School Program! This year, the two groups collected and prepared 263 backpacks stuffed with school supplies for Windham's young scholars. They have partnered with WAIM on this initiative for approximately 15 years. Their BTS Program contribution started with 25 backpacks, and it has grown steadily from there each year. We are grateful for their faithfulness!

Back to School Program Going Strong

WAIM's 2026 Back to School Program is coming to a close. Thank you to everyone who donated to make this program a success! And a special thanks to the awesome Windham Public Schools liaison team that helped with registration, translation, and sharing relevant information with clients. So far, approximately 150 families have received school uniforms, backpacks with school supplies, and free books for our young scholars!

Volunteer Spotlight

John has volunteered at WAIM for over a year now. He helps clients get paired with the perfect bike for their size and needs. John also represents his parish, Our Lady Queen of Peace in Coventry, as a delegate to WAIM. We are grateful!
