3,) Speaking of education...
Last week, our third-grade Local History and Landmarks program started-up for the current school year. We mentioned that the program was inspired by Elizabeth Enders -- and Elizabeth wrote back:
Hi Susan. This is fantastic and exceedingly encouraging!
Good for you and Jody!!! It’s terrific! Please give credit to the extraordinary Harbor School teachers, the Boylan sisters, Mary and Sarah. Mary taught third grade and Sarah fourth. The tour of historic sites took place in fourth grade. In the third grade we studied the explorers, had a puppet show of Columbus and a remarkable Science Club. My brother, Frank, and I went to the bookstore in town to buy books for the club. Sally Ryan is their niece. She could give some remarkable tales!

4.) Boo -- Haunted Connecticut: Ledge Light was on WFSB Channel 3. Thanks to news anchor Mark Zinni and NLMS VP Christina Corcoran .

5.) We will bring Arm of the Sea Theater to NL next SPRING!

36th New London Maritime Society ANNUAL MEETING
Join us at the Custom House Maritime Museum to recap the year & have a bite of cake!

We will toast NLMS librarian Brian Rogers, who celebrates 10 years back at the helm of the Frank L. McGuire Maritime Research Library . Following this meeting, Brian retires as our head librarian. Laurie Deredita will assume the top NLMS librarian post.
Brian Rogers was among the original group to create the Frank L. McGuire Maritime Research Library at the Custom House. By 2008, however, architect Ben Martin's beautiful library was is rough shape -- used primarily for storage! We cleaned it up and invited the founding librarian, Brian Rogers, to return.

He came back in 2009! But it took several years before Brian re-assumed the title of Head Librarian.
Brian made everything ship-shape! Since 2014, he has produced monthly book selections, and, more recently, online exhibitions, which Brian will continue to develop for NLMS. Just last month, working with Eugene MacMullan, he had this box made to protect our Robt. Mills folio of original drawings.
