At Last! Time to Celebrate!!
Three Parks members join the huge crowd of friends and neighbors along Broadway on Saturday to cheer the victory of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
By Lorraine Zamora

The presidential election is over. Joe Biden is our president-elect. He won by a slim margin but got more votes than any other presidential candidate in our history. It was not a landslide, but a win is a win.  The narrow margin only sweetens the victory.

Now, at least for a little while, we don’t have to concentrate exclusively on how to defeat the ugly campaigns waged by our opponents. Instead, let’s focus on those inspiring images that we all saw of thousands upon thousands of Americans lined up at polling sites, all wearing masks and standing 6 feet apart. The lines of voters stretched for blocks and blocks, through sun, clouds and rain, all across the country. The democratic duty to vote overrode the need for bodily comfort. Let’s also salute the poll workers, who worked for days on end from the start of early voting until Election Day, and then continued to work 24/7 to ensure that the voting process was completed in accordance with state law.

As happy I am with the election results, I am still reeling over the millions of votes that Donald Trump received. After all we’ve been through the last four years, how could so many Americans vote for him? White resentment? Patriarchy? Anti-abortion? Anti-government, fear of liberals, economic anxiety?

I do not know the answer, but I know we are a divided country. I do not yet know how we will move forward, but I know that Joe Biden will lead the country, and that Kamala Harris will be our first Black woman vice president. I am energized.  I hope you are, too.

Three Parks worked hard to get out the vote in 2020—and now must work just as hard to help Biden/Harris lead the country in 2021, in whatever way we can from our perch on the Upper West Side. I know that all of you are ready to join that effort.

Once more, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the Three Parks members and friends who made phone calls for the Biden/Harris team and for Rep. Antonio Delgado, who wrote postcards on behalf of Sara Gideon and Jaime Harrison, and who sent text messages on behalf of Rep. Max Rose. Even though not every outcome was as we wished, you can be proud that you did everything you could to support those candidates.

Thanks to Webmaster Steve Max!
As we wind down from one hectic election season and start into another one, it's time to acknowledge the amazing job of our webmaster extraordinaire, Steve Max. Steve is the wizard behind the Three Parks website with all of its
informative and easy-to-navigate functions, images, and links. He also creates and edits those handsome electronic e-blasts from Three Parks that alert you to monthly club and board meetings, phone banking and other campaign activities, sidewalk tabling schedules, voting data, and, most recently, electronic voting procedures for endorsing 2021 municipal candidates. In addition, he has trained board members to host sidewalk tables, lead phone banks, do text messaging, and create e-blasts of their own.

And did we mention that Steve is also our Zoom Master for all our club and board meetings?

Please join the Three Parks Board and your fellow club members and friends in thanking Steve for an amazing job.
