President's Report
By Daniele Gerard
There is no democracy without honor.
So now our government is executing people in fishing boats with no declaration of war and no due process. Demolishing parts of the people‘s house. Hoping 40 million people starve. Drilling in the Arctic. Denying the franchise by any means. It’s hard to imagine the litany of horrors over the past 11 months, but they are our current reality.
Luckily, here in NYC, we are looking forward to a humane outcome in the mayoral race. Three Parks has been out tabling repeatedly for Zohran Mamdani, Alvin Bragg, Jumaane Williams, Brad Hoylman-Sigal, Mark Levine, and Shaun Abreu. We urge you to vote for them and for Gale Brewer, who is on the ballot in Council District 6, and for our endorsed judicial candidates, Judy Kim, Suzanne Adams, James Clynes, and Deborah Kaplan. With just a little bit of luck and voter participation, we will win.
We also have our potluck holiday party to look forward to, the first time we are hosting it at the Youth Hostel since before Covid! We look forward to seeing all of you and sampling the terrific dishes you bring on Sunday, December 7 from 5 to 8 PM.
There is some hope in this cesspool of fascism.
Onward!

Thank You to All Volunteers!
After Weeks of Campaigning, Election Day
Is Finally Here.
| | |
The 2025 General election is here at last, and Three Parks members have been campaigning tirelessly to get all of our Democratic candidates over the finish line.
Many thanks to all the volunteers who handed out flyers at our sidewalk tables, registered new voters, talked to friends and neighbors, and even knocked on doors in nearby districts! Below are some scenes from the campaign.

Tenants’ Rights Activist Michael McKee
Three Parks mourns the death of Michael McKee, who spent 50 years advocating tirelessly to strengthen rent-protection regulations in New York State.
Mike's activist career started in the early 1970s, when he and fellow tenants in a West 17th Street apartment building mounted a successful rent strike. The strike eventually culminated in the first known collective bargaining agreement between tenants and a landlord.
Mike subsequently became a full-time tenants’ rights activist. He joined the Metropolitan Council on Housing, founded the New York State Tenants & Neighbors Coalition and the School for Organizers, directed the People’s Housing Network, and served as treasurer of the Tenants Political Action Committee.
Through his work, Mike helped win many important victories for tenants’ rights: extending NYC rent regulation to other parts of NYS, protecting seniors and the disabled from onerous rent hikes, limiting landlords from charging market-rate rents when apartments become vacant, requiring property owners to maintain their buildings in good condition, minimizing grounds for eviction, banning brokers from charging prospective tenants fees, and curbing the conversion of individual apartments to short-term hotel suites.
Mike addressed the club many times over the years--we will miss him greatly, and send heartfelt condolences to his family.
