By Lorraine Zamora

As I write this, we are still enjoying the last days of summer—but as we all know, what may be the most momentous presidential election of our lifetimes is fast approaching. So even on these quiet summer days, Three Parks volunteers have been working hard to elect Democrats up and down the ballot. In recent weeks, scores of dedicated Club members have written several thousand postcards to voters in Maine, encouraging them to oust Republican Sen. Susan Collins and to elect Democrat Sara Gideon in Collins’ stead, thereby helping to gain a Democratic majority in the U.S. Senate. Another group of Club members, in cooperation with the New York for Biden campaign, has begun making weekly phone calls to voters all across America to support the Joe Biden/Kamala Harris ticket.

And that is just the beginning.

Make a Plan to Vote!

Election day is Tuesday, November 3.
This year New Yorkers have three ways to vote:
  1. On November 3 at their assigned poll site between 6:00 AM and 9:00 PM.
  2. During the Early Voting period, which runs from October 24 through November 1, at their assigned Early Voting poll site. The hours vary each day and are posted on the Board of Elections (BOE) website, vote.nyc.
  3. By Absentee Ballot. The applications must be mailed, emailed, faxed, or filed online by October 27. Voters can also apply in person at the BOE office by November 2.

The deadline for voter registration is October 9.
To request an Absentee Ballot, go to the BOE website, vote.nyc, and click the online link.

Democratic State Committee Report
By Daniel Marks Cohen

The State Democratic Party finally called another meeting in August, after one earlier in the month, in part due to the fact that we needed to gather after the Democratic National Convention to formally approve the Presidential electors, and consider three resolutions for consideration by the Progressive Caucus. It should be noted that the Caucus is now not only the main group submitting resolutions for consideration, it is frequently the ONLY group submitting resolutions, and lately, they are all getting passed overwhelmingly.
2021 Endorsements Are Coming.
Make Sure You are Eligible to Vote!

Three Parks will be holding endorsement votes for Mayor, Comptroller, District Attorney, Public Advocate, and other NYC offices starting after the November General Election and running into February.

Under Club rules, to be eligible to vote, you must have attended at least one Club meeting (including online Zoom meetings) since last January and your dues payments must be current.

Don't miss out on the 2021 endorsements!

The Maine Postcard Campaign Continues Full Speed Ahead!

With the start of early voting in Maine just a few weeks away, the Three Parks postcard-writing campaign is now in full swing. If you are not signed up already, you can join our postcard-writing efforts by clicking here or watch your email for further details. Postcard pick-up and drop-off takes place as follows:

Phone Bank for Rep. Antonio Delgado
-- and Help Keep the NY 19th Congressional District Democratic!
By Miriam Rabban

Join Three Parks volunteers and friends on Sept. 1 for a special combined training and phone banking session for Democratic Rep. Antonio Delgado, who represents the 19th Congressional district south of Albany. Delgado won the district in the 2018 “blue wave,” defeating the Republican incumbent. Now we need to support him to help keep this seat Democratic and to maintain and even expand the Democratic majority in the House. Here’s how you can help:

Training and Phone Banking
Tuesday, Sept. 1
6:00 - 8:00 pm

If you plan to participate in this special Three Parks session, please e-mail our Coordinator, Miriam Rabban, by clicking here.

Let's Pitch In for Staten Island's Democratic Rep. Max Rose

ln 2018, Max Rose won this traditionally Republican seat, Congressional District NY 11. Now the Republicans have targeted him and are pouring in money. His opponent is Nicole Malliotakis, an Assembly member from the area. She ran for NYC Mayor in 2017, and although she came in far behind Mayor de Blasio city-wide, she carried Staten Island with 67%. This will be a rough fight for Max Rose.

You can help hold this seat for the Democrats by phoning or texting from home. We are currently discussing strategies with the Rose campaign and will start soon. Sign up by clicking "Volunteer Now" to get more information.

Urgent! Encourage Everyone You Know To Complete Census 2020!
 By Wendy Diller

The 2020 Census count comes to an end on Sept. 30, and EVERY response counts. While nationwide more than 82.4% of housing units in the US are accounted for, as of August 30, that rate is much lower in NY.

As we fight for a more equitable budget in New York and protest budget cuts, it so important to get the Census correct, especially now due to COVID-19 budget crashes. Every NY resident, no matter where they are residing right now, should complete and file Census forms so that New York receives adequate federal funding for education, Medicaid, hospitals, children’s health insurance, senior care, affordable housing, and more. The NYC Health Department uses census data in emergencies to determine responses.

The 2020 Judicial Convention
By Alan Flacks, 3 Parks Dems delegate, 69th Assembly District

Our Party’s judicial convention, held on Aug.10, 2020, designated four candidates for N.Y. State Supreme Court Justices in the First Judicial District (Manhattan) to appear as the Democratic candidates for four vacancies on the November 3 General Election ballot.  They are:  Ta-Tanisha James, Carol Sharpe, Melissa Crane, and David Cohen, all currently N.Y.C. Civil Court Judges.  They were chosen from a field of 19 lower court judges and lawyers who were found most highly qualified over the past four years by the Manhattan Party’s merit screening panels.

NYC Comptroller Scott Stringer Reports on City Budget Challenges

At the Three Parks Club meeting held via Zoom on August 12, club members and friends logged on to hear from NYC Comptroller Scott Stringer. His topic was the budgeting issues that the City faces amid the ongoing COVID pandemic. In his view, the current economic conditions have created the City's greatest financial challenges since the Great Depression.

But Stringer also sounded an optimistic note, saying that the current crisis is an opportunity to create "a fairer and more just city."
