1) Homecoming - This Homecoming Week we’re inviting our alumni home and honoring our Merit Award winners at the annual Copper Dome Society dinner on Friday. Our students are taking center stage with Man and Woman of the Year festivities, the Homecoming Parade, a Homecoming festival on Normal Avenue, and the football game. It’s been said that our Homecoming is Cape Girardeau’s Mardi Gras, and I love the energy. If you see new faces around campus this week, they may be alumni so be sure to give them a warm SEMO welcome. You can find the full list of Homecoming events at semo.edu/homecoming.
2) Capital Renewal Program - During the September Board of Governors meeting, our Board approved a new Capital Renewal Program to fund priority projects that enhance campus facilities and infrastructure. The projects will improve instructional and student facing spaces, protect existing facilities, address infrastructure deficiencies and support athletics facility needs. The projects include:
- Scully Hall Roof Replacement
- Towers East Elevator Replacement
- Sikeston Regional Campus HVAC Replacement & Skylight Repair
- Portion of Stadium Phase 2 Project
- University Center Interior Enhancements
- Magill Hall Laboratory Fume Hood Replacements
We know the needs are great on our beautiful, but historic campus. This is a big step in beginning to address deferred maintenance, and I’m so pleased we can move forward.
3) Strategic Plan - Did you think there’d be Three Things where I didn’t talk about the Strategic Plan? Not for four years! Our goalkeepers have taken the pages of initiative ideas you gave at our campus kickoff event and built out the year 1 implementation plans. Work is underway. We have updated the Strategic Plan webpage with this year’s initiatives and the Goalkeepers and Captains guiding year one implementation. Check it out at semo.edu/strategic.
