Happy Friday, Redhawks. Can you believe we’re in the final eight weeks of the spring semester? Time is certainly flying, and with much happening on our busy campus this spring there are three things I’d like to share.

1) SOUTHEAST MISSOURI CRIME LAB – Earlier today, the Missouri State Highway Patrol hosted an event on campus to announce the location of a new crime laboratory. SEMO has donated land across from Houck Field House for the site of the new location. The project is early in planning, so no timeline has yet been established, but this will provide invaluable experiential learning opportunities for our students. We are excited to be partners in this important project in our community.

2) INTERIM FM DIRECTOR – I have appointed Bill Hooper as interim director of Facilities Management, effective March 23. Bill comes to us through The Registry, a higher education placement firm. He has extensive facilities management experience both inside and outside of higher education. Starting next week will give him the opportunity to overlap with current director Angela Meyer before she leaves the University at the end of the month. You can read more about Bill at SEMO News

3) SEMO GIVING DAY – Each year, we ask our alumni, employees, and friends to come together on one day and give a little to support projects across campus. And, each year, they help us exceed our goal, this year raising $378,379. This is a testament to the experience our students have here and how deeply connected our graduates remain with SEMO. This Giving Day also pushed us across the goal line to wrap up the Transforming Lives comprehensive campaign more than a year ahead of schedule! Many thanks to the University Foundation for leading these efforts, and thanks especially to all who give so generously to support SEMO’s mission.

Just a reminder to attend the next Employee Town Hall on Thursday, March 26 at noon in Academic Auditorium for a legislative, enrollment, and budget update. Another town hall is scheduled for April 29.

Go Redhawks,
