Remember Tigger and Eeyore, the lovable characters from Winne the Poo? Turns out, it's not so easy to be a Tigger, as we've evolved to be a bit pessimistic to save ourselves from traumatic situations. But guess what? You can work to conquer negative thinking! Learn how, and more, in this NYTimes 'How to Be Happy' guide.
What we're watching:
Whether you're a supervisor or you just have one, you've probably thought about what's needed to thrive in a professional setting. This Harvard Business Review 2-minute film offers an equation to spark motivation: Hygiene factors (eliminate dissatisfaction) + engagement factors (motivate). Don't kick your employees in the pants unless you want them to kick you back!
Quote we're inspired by:
"If you want to build a ship, don't drum up the men to gather wood, divide the work, and give orders. Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea."
So why this mix of materials this week? Well, we're gearing up for another exciting Positive Leadership workshop on February 22nd - 24th
, and it has us once again thinking about leadership and how to do it right. There is no one, simple answer, but at the UPEACE Centre for Executive Education we believe in a balance between the internal and the external. You need to start at the personal level, figuring out what well-being means to you and how to maximize it in all areas of life. Once you have yourself under control, you can move to your team, your workplace and your employees, and start thinking about how best to motivate them and help move them forward in improving their own personal and professional well-being. No matter where you are in the process, whether you're working on yourself as you go through an important transition, or are ready to learn to bring your knowledge to a wider team, join us for a motivational 3-day workshop to get started!
See you in two weeks for our next Three Thought Thursday!
