What we're watching:
When you think of how to pursue more happiness and success in your life, who is the first person you think about? Matthew McConaughey? Okay, probably not, but he's got some really insightful things to say about it! In this video he gives solid advice on seeking joy and success in this complicated world - how to work on increasing gratitude, loving the act of 'doing' instead of fixating on the results you cannot control, and setting goals for yourself. Doing your best is on you!
What we're reading:
Research shows that workplaces characterized by positive practices such as supporting teammates in tough times, avoiding blame and caring for each other as friends, excel. Organizations that manage to increase positive emotions and buffer against stress and negativity have higher levels of effectiveness including bottom-line results like financial performance and client satisfaction. So how can you do this at your workplace? Read the article to find out!
Quote we're inspired by:

"If you have good thoughts, they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely."

Roald Dahl, The Twits
This week, we're thinking about one of our favorite topics: happiness! Okay, not just happiness in and of itself. To paraphrase actor Matthew McConaughey in the video above, happiness is an emotional response tied to an outcome, and each time it is achieved, we simply set the bar higher. You think that a new cell phone will make you happy, but then a fancy new iPhone comes out with better features, and suddenly you're yearning for that one instead. But joy and positivity do have concrete, visible effects, and in fact are known to increase productivity in organizations. So work to cultivate the joy in your life!

On this topic, we're thrilled to announce that in March, 2019, the UPEACE Centre for Executive Education is teaming up with World Happiness Agora to offer Gross Global Happiness, the first executive program of its kind that will immerse global leaders and international changemakers in a 3-day training experience to learn about new paradigms and strategies for human development. Using pillars of emotional intelligence, flow, mindfulness, relationships and whole life, participants will understand frameworks and tools to create and experience a more productive, joyful and, yes, happy life. We're currently accepting applications from changemakers with something to share, so check it out and apply to share your knowledge at this unique event!
