What we're watching:
This short film documents an experiment in gratitude, looking at how gratitude affects  mood. It's a great reminder that we can make the choice to seek happiness with something so simple as giving back.
What we're reading:
This link holds a variety of articles, but if you skip straight down to the first full piece, 'The Game Changer,' you'll find a thought-provoking take on the future of philanthropy and the systems that giving through traditional foundations upholds. The tagline is ' Philanthropy is designed to preserve unequal power .' Intrigued yet?
Quote we're inspired by:
"At the end of the day, it's not about what you have or even what you've accomplished... it's about who you've lifted up, who you've made better. It's about what you've given back."         -- Denzel Washington
Last week, Hurricane Otto blew through Costa Rica, the first hurricane to cross the country for as long as they have been keeping records.  The northern part of the country was hard hit, and the people of Costa Rica rallied and came together immediately to help. The day after the storm, organizations, companies and communities had already put together a plethora of options to give back, help out and donate. We were blown away by the organization and commitment of the country, and today we're thinking a lot about giving. Giving, of course, in terms of donations, but also in the deeper sense of how to give back to society in a meaningful way. The three picks above reflect this.
As you think of giving, remember we're also fast approaching the holidays! At the UPEACE Centre for Executive Education, we do an annual 'End of the Year Special' that offers $100 off any single course, or $250 off the Diploma in Social Innovation. If you, or someone in your life, would benefit from the gift of knowledge this year, let us know, and we'll be happy to talk through the options with you!

See you in two weeks for our next Three Thought Thursday!
