It's that time of year again - graduation! If you need a dose of inspiration, go ahead and google 'best commencement speeches' next time you have a free hour, and prepare to be wowed. In the meantime, this classic from Steve Jobs is definitely worth re-visiting. "You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart."
What we're reading:
Another one pulled from the graduation speech coffers, George Saunders advice to graduates of Syracuse University in 2013 is well worth a read. He reminds us to 'err in the direction of kindness,' reflecting on the biggest failures of life as those in which he lacked compassion and an open heart. Good words to remember, today and into the future.
Quote we're inspired by:
"Summon your compassion, your curiosity, your empathy towards others and your commitment to service. Give more than you receive and I promise you, it will come back to you in ways you can't possibly imagine."
--- Howard Schultz, Former Starbucks CEO Arizona State University commencement 2017
This past Friday, the UPEACE 2017 commencement ceremony recognized 77 shiny-eyed, smiling students from around the globe for completing their time at the University for Peace. The graduation ceremony was fun and inspiring, with words from the Vice President of Costa Rica, Ana Helena Chacón Echeverría, traditional dance and a marimba band in the intermezzo, and even a flash mob dancethat erupted spontaneously during the reception.
Graduation ceremonies launch a new generation of students into the workforce and are known for sending them off with words of wisdom and reflection.
