Kane County Board Makes Appointment to New Transit Board

The Kane County Board has appointed Brian Dahl to represent the County on the newly created Northern Illinois Transit Authority (NITA) Board of Directors and the Pace Suburban Bus Board, while reappointing Joe McMahon to the Metra Board of Directors. READ MORE

Union Pacific Railroad Crossing Closure

Scheduled on LaFox Road

LaFox Road will be closed at the Union Pacific Railroad crossing just north of Keslinger Road in Blackberry Township from June 17 through June 23. A posted detour will direct motorists via Route 38, Peck Road and Keslinger Road. Drivers are encouraged to slow down, use caution and follow all posted traffic signs. READ MORE

Families are invited to participate in the World’s Largest Swim Lesson on June 26. It's a free event focused on water safety skills. Participation is limited to the first 100 registrants.

Tuna Kahuna Fishing Derby Celebrates 30 Years in South Elgin

Young anglers ages 15 and under are invited to the 30th Annual Tuna Kahuna Fishing Derby on June 20, in South Elgin. Pre-registration is encouraged.

North Aurora's Dog Days of Summer Set

North Aurora's annual Dog Days of Summer returns July 18, from 10 a.m. to noon at Riverfront Park. The free event features a pet parade, dog contests, adoptable pets from local rescue groups, a pet-themed vendor market and family-friendly activities.

Gilberts Garage Sale Days

Village-wide garage sales are coming to Gilberts June 18–21. No permit is required, making it easy for residents to clean out closets, sell unwanted items and shop for great bargains throughout the community.

Help Keep Stormwater Flowing

As Kane County residents clean up after the recent waves of severe storms, the Kane-DuPage Soil & Water Conservation District reminds everyone not to overlook curbs and storm drains. Clearing leaves, branches and other debris helps stormwater flow properly, reduces the risk of localized flooding and keeps debris out of local rivers and streams.

Webinar Explores How Trauma and Separation Affect Young Children

The Kane County Health Department is hosting a free webinar from 10 to 11 a.m. on June 25 that examines how separation fears, grief and trauma can affect young children's behavior, emotional well-being and development. Spanish interpretation will be provided. Registration is free and required to receive the Zoom link.

Switch Together Shares Solar Panel Care Tips

Thinking about going solar? Kane County's Switch Together program offers free resources on solar panel installation, maintenance and performance. Learn whether solar panels need cleaning and get expert advice through the county's partnership with the Midwest Renewable Energy Association and the Citizens Utility Board.

Beware of Door-to-Door Home Repair Scams

The St. Charles Police Department is warning residents about an increase in complaints involving fraudulent door-to-door handyman services offering home repair and restoration work. Remember, commercial solicitors must register with the City and carry a City-issued photo ID. If you're unsure about someone at your door or have concerns about a solicitor, call 911.

East Dundee Ends Fireworks Displays Over Fox River

The East Dundee Village Board has voted to prohibit fireworks displays launched over the Fox River, citing concerns about debris entering the waterway and impacts on wildlife. Future displays may be relocated to other areas of the village or replaced with drone shows, which officials say offer a more environmentally friendly alternative. This year's Fourth of July fireworks celebration will proceed as planned and will be the last to use the river bridge location. Source: Courier-News reporting by Gloria Casas.
