We recently had an interesting experience on our way to visit Pastor Roger Bitner of the Fairview Church of God in Canada. As is now common for most cross-border travel, we were required to test negative for Covid within 72 hours of entering Canada. As we reached the Detroit border crossing, our tests had still not been analyzed. We had to improvise on the spot.

In the heart of Detroit, we quickly arranged for new Covid tests, got a hotel room for the night, and then began to drive to the Buffalo/Canada border via the USA side to get closer to Toronto while we awaited the results.

As Sunday arrived, we found ourselves still in Buffalo, but preaching to the church in Toronto. After the online service, we were put into break-out sessions with a small group. That was the first time we had experienced something like that. We were surprised at how intimate the online post-sermon break-out session could be. It was a reminder that we in the church are going to have to be flexible, ready to change in a heartbeat, and embrace technology-sometimes more than we might like. The internet will continue evolving as we transition to Web 3.0. The church is often an institution very resistant to change. We believe that the more churches are open to change, the more they can be surprised by how easily God can work in new ways.
