BMW E92 T1 Race Car Build
For more than a decade, Dr. Machado’s 1998 BMW E36 was a constant at Waterford Hills. He had developed it gradually, learned to race in it and, with help from Matt and the Huffmaster Racing team, watched it become increasingly competitive. For a physician with a demanding career, Waterford Hills had also become a place where competition, friendship and routine came together. Then, at the final race of the 2025 season, the car was totaled.
The loss hit harder than simply replacing a piece of equipment. Machado called the E36 his “first baby.” Almost immediately, however, another question took over: how could he get back on track the following season?
He started shopping for prepared E46 race cars, many priced around $65,000. The cost was one concern. The bigger issue was uncertainty. Buying someone else’s race car meant trusting its history, condition and preparation - all things he could not easily verify.
Then the obvious answer appeared. “Damn, I have a car,” he remembers thinking.
Sitting at home was his 2009 BMW E92, a car he had owned and maintained for roughly a decade. He knew its history, knew how it had been serviced and already had an emotional attachment to it. Instead of buying an unknown race car, he called Matt and asked whether Huffmaster Racing could turn the E92 into one in time for the 2026 season - and do it within a defined budget.
The project became more than a straight build. The Huffmaster team dismantled the damaged E36, identified parts that could be reused and handled the sale of the rest, recovering roughly $10,000 for Machado. The team documented the sales, involved him in key decisions and managed the inspection and logbook process. “I did not have to move a finger,” he says.
By spring, the E92 was ready. Its first race brought excitement and a healthy amount of caution. The newer car was heavier, more powerful and required Machado to rethink braking points and rebuild confidence after the crash. “The power in this car is three notches above my skills,” he said with a laugh.
But outright speed was not the most important result that weekend. Friends welcomed him back, the car drew compliments throughout the paddock, and Machado realized he had made it through the setback without losing a season.
“I’m back at Waterford Hills. I did not miss a single race thanks to the help of the Huffmaster Racing team” he says. “I call it a spiritual experience, because we did not give up.”
