DEAR CAREER COACH
I want to leave my employer on good terms. What do I do?
Clear communication is key when leaving your current company for a new one. Here are some things to remember:

  1. Double-check the resignation policy. While in most places you can give two-weeks notice, some organizations require more advance warning.
  2. Request an in-person or Zoom meeting prior to submitting your resignation letter, so that you can express respect for your supervisor and appreciation for your time at the company. Remember not to share the news with colleagues or teammates until you’ve informed your supervisor.
  3. Submit your resignation letter and include the date for your final day of work. Don't forget to restate your gratitude for the experience you’ve had at the company and say you look forward to staying in touch.
