Schild Invited to Join State
Parent Advisory Committee

Allison Schild, Thriving Mind’s Peer Services Manager, was invited by the Casey Family Program to join the Florida Parent Advisory Committee. She has been selected to be part of this committee based on her experience and expertise on parent engagement and her lived in experienced in the Behavioral Health and Child Welfare Systems. She will be part of this committee alongside DCF Secretary Harris, DCF Deputy Secretary Hatch, DCF Asst. Secretary for CW Campfield as well as nine other parents from all over the state.

Thriving Mind Sets up
SOAR Office Hours
|
Thriving Mind’s SOAR (SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access, and Recovery ) Local Lead Guillermo Lauzurique has set up monthly virtual office hours on the last Thursday of every month. This allows providers the opportunity to “pop in” to an established Zoom line and ask any questions regarding the SOAR process. These virtual hours began in August and the first session was attended by 3 providers (Fellowship House, Banyan and Camillus House) and resulted in a group discussion about processes and overcoming barriers. Healthy Start Coalition
Celebrates 20 Years
|
Thriving Mind South Florida congratulated Healthy Start Coalition of Miami-Dade on their 20 years of dedicated service to the community. Under the outstanding leadership of Manny Fermin, Healthy Start has become a lead organization for maternal and child infant health services in our community. As Manny built enduring programs and provided mission-focused leadership, he increased funding, and he maintained steady commitment to the vision that “every child in our community can have a Healthy Start.”

Thriving Mind Participates in Presentations and Conferences

Newcomer Moderates Project Opioid Panel: John W. Newcomer, M.D., Thriving Mind CEO/President, moderated the Project Opioid Panel hosted by the Beacon Council on November 3, 2021. Project Opioid Miami-Dade is to educate business, faith, and community leaders on how they can help save the greatest number of lives by building a coalition, creating a regional overdose initiative, and promoting high-level advocacy.

Staff Attend National Workshop on Suicide Prevention: Thriving Mind staff attended a two-day workshop (Nov. 3 and Nov. 8) put on my National Institutes of Mental Health (NIMH) on Advancing Training in Suicide Prevention in Clinical Care, sponsored by NIMH’s Division of Services and Intervention Research and the Suicide Research Team to assess the state of the science related to suicide prevention training in clinical care with the ultimate goal of preventing suicidal behavior through improved training of providers.
