Indigenous Youth Explore Outdoor Careers and Cultural Connections

The National Forest Foundation’s Mission Mountains Youth Crew (MMYC) program engages Indigenous youth on the Flathead Reservation in Montana, fostering conservation leadership and career pathways in natural resources.

The program offers hands-on stewardship experiences, cultural connections and life skills development. Supported by a grant from the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, MMYC aligns with the foundation’s Youth Development focus of increasing economic mobility for rural and Indigenous young people in Montana.

Participants work alongside tribal and Forest Service specialists, learning about land stewardship, history and natural resource careers. MMYC continues to grow as a model for youth engagement nationwide.

Workforce Training Boosts Economic Mobility in Atlanta's Westside

Three Georgia-based organizations are advancing financial security for Atlanta’s Historic Westside residents through workforce development programs.

  • Atlanta Technical College will recruit 400 residents from English Avenue and Vine City for training in high-demand industries like electrical line working and logistics.
  • Goodwill of North Georgia will train 250 residents for careers in solar technology and electric vehicle charging sectors.
  • ADOLES, a division within the City of Atlanta, will provide job training and placement for young adults facing employment barriers.

Supported by nearly $4.5 million in grants from the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, these programs aim to foster economic mobility for Westside residents.

Gallatin College Expanding with Cutting-Edge Workforce Facility

Gallatin College Montana State University, a two-year institution in Southwest Montana, is experiencing rapid growth with a 10% enrollment increase in 2023. However, the college operates from borrowed locations, limiting its ability to expand vital workforce programs like welding, HVAC and aviation electronics that regularly have waiting lists.

To address this challenge, the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation awarded an $11.25 million grant to fund an on-campus facility. This new building will provide the space to accommodate more students and better equip them with the skills required to meet the evolving needs of Montana's industries.
