This week we're presenting Jamestown Art Center, Smith College Museum of Art, and Hood Museum.
Points of view. Everyone has one. This week's exhibitions feature artists who take that view and use a camera to show the world what it is they see. While some capture the dreams and aspirations of their subjects, others photograph feelings of nostalgia and ancestral memory, others still use their skills to piece together how images themselves affect our world.

Bloodstone + Home at Jamestown Art Center
in Jamestown, Rhode Island from September 12 to November 8

Image courtesy of Jamestown Art Center. | | Jamestown Art Center presents Bloodstone + Home, a solo show by Georgia-born, Providence-based artist Becci Davis. Through a layered and striking "collage aesthetic," Davis explores her own ancestral history and "documents the contradiction between the natural beauty that her ancestral land bares and the architectural beauty of historic monumental buildings built by the labor of slaves." This exhibition is shown in tandem with Bohemian Ossuary by artist DS Kinsel. The opening reception for both shows will be held on Friday, Sept. 12 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., with an artist talk running from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. The gallery is open Wednesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and by appointment. Michel Kameni: Portraits of an Independent Africa at Smith College Museum of Art

Courtesy the Solander Collection. | | Smith College Museum of Art presents Michel Kameni: Portraits of an Independent Africa featuring 55 prints made during the 1960s and 1970s following Cameroon's independence. Cameroonian artist Michel Kameni "was particularly good at depicting the aspirations of the people who entered his studio," according to curatorial materials. "He collaborated with them to craft evocative nyanga (boasting, or bragging) photographs: images to send friends and loved ones or to document important relationships, events, or milestones." The opening reception will be held on Friday, Sept. 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and additionally, the second Friday of each month from 4 to 8 p.m. The Smith College Museum of Art is located at 20 Elm Street at Bedford Terrace, Northampton, MA. Hood Museum presents Visual Kinship, an exhibition that "explores how photography defines, challenges, and reimagines the concept of family." This exhibition of contemporary and historic photography "examines how images reflect and disrupt family structures shaped by colonialism, migration, transnational adoption, and queer intimacies," according to curatorial materials and "considers how visual culture fosters alternative networks of belonging and care." The museum is open Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Hood Museum is located at 6 East Wheelock Street, Hanover, NH.
