Welcome to April and to another new season! We're quickly approaching our next holiday, and will have some Class Cancellations around the Easter Weekend. It seems like time flies by, and we can definitely all join together in gratitude to Yoga for giving us that hour or so a day where we can slow down and be present with ourselves. It's also a time of transition at the studio as we move swiftly toward the due date of owner Ashley's baby, and all of the joy which that has and will continue to bring our community. Babies remind us of possibility, of what it means to truly be filled with potential as we embrace their fresh and abundant energy which is sure to fill our lives with their arrival. They can also remind us that life continues to grow and change, sometimes (or often) in spite of our best efforts to remain in our comfort zone. Life can easily find us locked into our 'patterns' and those places within ourselves and our lives which bring comfort and a sense of reliability. Yoga's inherent ability to hold us gently in that place where transitions arise within and outside of ourselves is such a blessing and one which I know so many of us are grateful for.

But transitions don't always occur on the wings of a beautiful bouncing baby! Transition can sweep us up in it's billows leaving us feeling caught off guard and unprepared to face the challenges that arise within it. I want to share with you 5 essential practices which I have relied on this past year as I navigated the less than gentle winds of change which have blown through my own life. Read more on our newest Blog Post ...

1)     Presence: Just simple, intentional presence. Being in this second, this minute, this breath, this laughter, this tear, this very moment.
2)     Hand on Heart: This one is best paired with breath and a gentle noticing of the emotions that are arising inside.
3)     Unrelenting Vulnerability: This helped me feel seen, accepted and supported. As shame and vulnerability researcher & author Brene Brown says: "We don't
have to do all of it alone. We were never meant to."
4)     Service: Becoming more involved in my community, more focused on others and what they were going through in their lives, helped give me perspective and
        gratitude for my own challenges.
5)     Yoga: My practice was unequivocally the most kind, the most grounding, and by far the most nurturing thing that I could have done for myself and those
        around me.

The winds of change don't always have to present as hurricanes, and with this beautiful spring so far and the arrival of the tiniest member of our Yoga in Bowness family, I don't see any clouds on the horizon. However, if those gusts arise and you find yourself in the midst of life's transitions, know that you are not alone, that you are supported, and that the doors of the Studio are always open for you, our friend.

We are always looking for ways to support you in your life's moments and we have a couple of offerings coming up which we think will be excellent opportunities for presence and self-care. First up is our Spring Yin & Pin on coming up in just over a week. Then at the end of the month, we have 'Align Your Spine' with Alë Veffer to help you tap into the innate energy within, and bring mobility and vitality to your whole body & being. As always, our series classes offer an opportunity to grow your practice in a way that supports your unique self, and the next round of series is open for registration now! And we have a few more opportunities for you to get engaged in our community, with our Karma team or as our Social Media & Design Guru

With Gratitude,
Nellie

Feature Class: Kundalini
Each month, we'll be highlighting one of our regular drop-in classes, so you can get a better sense of the diversity in yoga types and styles, and learn what classes might suit you best through the changing seasons and conditions of your life.

The Feature class this month is Kundalini Yoga, which you can attend (with any of our regular drop-in passes) on Wednesdays from 4:45-5:45pm, and Saturdays 11:45am-1:15pm. This class is a different type of experience, than most of our other classes. You'll be guided through the use of mantra, breathwork, postures (often with repetitive movements), and different meditations, to bring awareness, clarity, and balance into all the aspects of yourself. With a strong focus on our energy and more subtle layers of our bodies, you'll leave feeling both aware, awake, and at ease. What I love about this type of yoga (and why I began to teach Kundalini 3 years ago), is the powerful and positive effect it has on our nervous & glandular systems (aka: your hormones & stress response) - making this a truly important practice for our modern-day times & stressors! Each class is quite different, with a different intention or focus and effect on your whole system - so come try it out a few times, and feel the difference for your self - in energy, emotion, mind, and more!

Sign up for class online now, or just show up with an open mind, ready to have a new & real experience of yourself!

We're Hiring Karma Team Members!   KarmaTeam
Are you passionate about yoga and the benefits it can bring to people's lives? Do you love our community, and want to play a bigger role in it? We are looking for a few enthusiastic people to join our Karma Team - where you'll exchange 4 hours of work / week, for unlimited access to our Drop-in classes, and team privileges and discounts on other services and products.  Email Nellie at [email protected] for more information.
Our Intro to Yoga classes are on each month, on the first & last Saturday of the month, from 1:30-2:30pm, and are BY DONATION! This class gives new students an opportunity to build the foundations of the practice in a safe and supportive environment, and continuing students to come back to the basics, and get out of bad habits that might have developed. Students PAY-WHAT-YOU-CAN and teachers donate their time, so that 100% of the proceeds from this class can go towards other local organizations in need.

The next Intro to Yoga classes is THIS April 6, and at the end of the month on Saturday April 27. You can sign up online for FREE now, by CLICKING HERE, or just show up!

Early-arrival & Signing in Online
Some classes have been picking up and getting busier again, so we'd like to remind you of our policies, and ways you can ensure you'll be able to enjoy any class you come to. Please arrive early for classes: anywhere from 20 minutes - a minimum of 5 minutes before class. With the busier classes, it's even more important to arrive early, to ensure your spot in the class, and so you can get in and get settled without rushing or disrupting others. Once we reach our maximum limit of 20 people (or fewer for our series classes) in class, additional students may not be permitted to attend. You're always welcome to come in early, set-up and enjoy some quiet time in the studio, or have a tea and conversations in our reception area before and after classes too.

You may also find it helpful to start using the   online sign-in option for our drop-in classes to reserve your spot, and keep yourself committed to your practice. Online sign-ups for drop-in classes will be reserved only until 5 minutes to class. If at that point, you are not there, and there are others waiting, your spot will be given away, though you will not be charged for the visit.  If you like to plan your classes while you're on the go, then try out the FREE MindBody App. Simply log-in, search Yoga in Bowness, and our classes & your passes will show up there, so you can sign-in while you're out and about. For guidance on how to sign-in to classes online, ask us to show you on your next visit.
