Thunder Bay CEDC Partners with FWFN, ABPA and NADF to Conduct Indigenous Economic Impact Analysis



The Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Commission (CEDC), in collaboration with Fort William First Nation, Anishnawbe Business Professional Association (ABPA) and the Nishnawbe Aski Development Fund (NADF), is pleased to announce that Indigenous & Community Engagement (ICE) Inc. in partnership with Big River Analytics (BRA) has been selected as the successful vendor for the Indigenous Economic Impact Analysis of the City of Thunder Bay.

Introducing the Business Development Manager of the Thunder Bay CEDC, Lucy!


Lucy's passion lies in learning about and supporting the incredible businesses in Thunder Bay, all while promoting our city as a fantastic place to live, work, and play!⁠

One of Lucy’s favourite projects was a led groundbreaking study on 'The Benefits of Mass Timber Workforce Communities' for Northwestern Mining Workforce Communities. It was a thrilling exploration of how the forestry sector could potentially support the mining sector, showcasing the interconnections of industries.⁠

Beyond the office, Lucy thrives in the great outdoors. Whether camping under the stars, hiking scenic trails, or indulging in bird watching, she finds tranquillity and joy in nature.

$28,750 In Support of the Robin's Minor Hockey Classic


The Thunder Bay CEDC and Tourism Thunder Bay were thrilled to contribute $28,750 from the CEDC Tourism Development Fund to support the Robin’s Minor Hockey Classic!


Now in its 31st year, the major tournament was hosted by Port Arthur Minor Hockey Association where 128 teams participated, including entries from across Northwestern Ontario, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan. With games spanned across nine Thunder Bay arenas, it was more than just a sporting event—it was a community celebration!


An economic boost of over $750,000 for Thunder Bay was expected as local hotels and restaurants welcomed over 1000 visitors.

The Thunder Bay participated in a public budget session regarding the City of Thunder Bay 2024 budget.

Support to Indigenous Tourism Operators, offering funding of up to $25,000  


The Indigenous Tourism Fund Micro and Small Business Stream recognizes market readiness standards set by The Original Original Accreditation Program, taking into account factors such as resource availability, cash flow, and market dynamics.

 

Its primary objective is to provide support to Indigenous tourism operators, offering funding of up to $25,000 per business to enhance their operations across six crucial categories:

·        Effective Community Engagement and Support

·        Excellence in Visitor Experience

·        Ensuring Health, Safety, and Comfort

·        Practicing Sustainable Indigenous Tourism

·        Excellence in Marketing and Visitor Services

·        Demonstrating Business Acumen/Practices
