For kindergarten students, the first couple weeks of school always involve establishing rules and routines. "We walk, not run, in hallways. We use inside voices. When the teachers talk, we are quiet. We raise our hands and wait until called upon to speak."

There were a few additions to this year's routine, including "our masks need to cover our nose and mouths, and we give our classmates 6 feet of space when possible."

Mrs. Kargel's class at Al Behrman Elementary practiced these old and new rules and routines while walking to the lunch room. Our newest students were quiet in the hallways as they followed the directional arrows on the floor, and kept to the right side of the hallway while Mr. Lenger's class passed on their left. They waited patiently on floor markers spread 6 feet apart to enter the lunch room. They followed Mrs. Kargel's directions to find their assigned seat at their lunch tables, and they listened quietly as Mrs. Kargel explained why these protocols needed to be followed. They raised their hands to ask questions, and waited until Mrs. Kargel called on them to speak. 

We are so proud of our littlest learners. Great job, kindergarteners! 

Al Behrman Elementary students lined up behind a hands-free hand sanitizer dispenser after taking a mask break at the end of last week. Before entering the building, each student put their hands under the sanitizer spout and used the hands-free step pump to squirt the sanitizer into their hands.

Each of our buildings has hands-free hand sanitizer pumps as part of our COVID-19 safety measures. Staff are also scheduling in time to wash hands more frequently, including before and after snack and lunch and when switching from one lesson to the next.
