Face Coverings Still Required After Sept. 28
Governor Evers' mask mandate is set to end on Sept. 28, 2020. The School District of Baraboo would like to remind our families that per school district policy, face coverings will continue to be required while on school premises after Sept. 28, 2020, and until further notice.

The District is requiring face coverings for students 5-years of age and older while on school premises. We ask that parents/guardians also wear face coverings while on school property when dropping off or picking up students.

Please note, the District is currently using the following definition of "face covering:"
"Face Covering" means a piece of cloth or other material that is worn to cover the nose and mouth completely. A "face covering" includes but is not limited to a bandana, a cloth face mask, a disposable or paper mask, a neck gaiter, or a religious face covering. A "face covering" does not include face shields, mesh masks, masks with holes or openings, or masks with vents. The District will align to the order until the order is no longer in effect.

Below is the District's Face Covering Response Protocol for elementary and secondary students. Click here for a printable version of this protocol. Thank you for working with the District to provide a safe environment for our students to be engaged, challenged and inspired!
Strumming in the Sun
Mr. Cutter, Jack Young Middle School band teacher, found the perfect opportunity to give students a mask break. Students in his general music class took to the outdoors, guitars in hand, to practice chords while sitting in the sunshine.

Tips For Virtual Learning Success
As we come to the end of the third week of the 2020-21 school year, it is important for virtual students and families to reflect on their virtual learning experience up to this point. What are you doing well? What needs improvement? What is most effective for your student?

The School District of Baraboo wants each learner to be successful, whether attending school in the classroom or attending school virtually. As each student is unique, what is most effective for one may not be what is most effective for another.

In support of our virtual learners, the School District of Baraboo has put together some learning tips to help promote an effective virtual experience! Click here for a printable version.

BHS Fall Sports
Baraboo High School is devoted to providing a safe experience for student-athletes and their families. All of our schools competing this fall recognize that to achieve a safe playing environment for student-athletes, a series of safety measures must be implemented that will limit elements of the experience for spectators, students, and other community and school-based groups that otherwise share in the game day experience.  Such measures are designed to support student-athletes' ability to safely play their full sport season in good health.

We find ourselves so fortunate to be able to offer these student and family opportunities in the time of this public health emergency. As conditions and protocols shift in response to the virus, we look forward to your ongoing support and collaboration to provide the best experiences possible for everyone.

Reminder: Wash Your Face Coverings!
In-person families, please remember to wash cloth masks and other face coverings regularly. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends the following for how to wash face coverings.
Washing machine
  • You can include your cloth face covering with your regular laundry.
  • Use regular laundry detergent and the warmest appropriate water setting for the cloth used to make the face covering.
Washing by hand
  • Check the label to see if your bleach is intended for disinfection. Some bleach products, such as those designed for safe use on colored clothing, may not be suitable for disinfection.
    • Use bleach containing 5.25%-8.25% sodium hypochlorite. Do not use a bleach product if the percentage is not in this range or is not specified.
    • Ensure the bleach product is not past its expiration date. Never mix household bleach with ammonia or any other cleanser.
    • Ensure adequate ventilation.
  • Prepare a bleach solution by mixing:
    • 5 tablespoons (1/3rd cup) of 5.25%-8.25% bleach per gallon of room temperature water or
    • 4 teaspoons of 5.25%-8.25% bleach per quart of room temperature water
  • Soak the mask in the bleach solution for 5 minutes.
  • Discard the bleach solution down the drain and rinse the mask thoroughly with cool or room temperature water.
  • Make sure to completely dry the mask after washing.

Friday Folders Are Going Virtual
The School District of Baraboo's Friday Folders are going virtual for the 2020-21 school year!

Information from non-district entities, like club sports, library programming, parks and rec information, etc., can now be accessed in a digital Friday Folder by clicking here. Friday Folder submissions from previous weeks will be archived in this folder as well, so if you want to reference it you can go to that week's folder and view it again!

This is a safety measure for in-person students to limit the number of papers received from outside sources, and will allow students who are attending school via the Virtual Learning Model to access to the information.

Please note: Important school-related information directly from the School District of Baraboo will still come home in Friday Folders, and virtual teachers will provide this information directly to their students.
Thank You, Community Donors!
The School District of Baraboo greatly appreciates and values our community partnerships.

Since July of 2020, nearly $3,500 has been donated by community partners for the school district to purchase water bottles for all elementary students and school supplies for all 4K students. We sincerely appreciate the generosity and thoughtfulness of WCCU, Baraboo Optimists Club, MSA, Baraboo Lions Club, Prevail Bank, Community First Bank, Bank of Wisconsin Dells and People Helping People to make these school supply purchases possible.

In addition to the school supply funding donations, Bill Harris from People Helping People (PHP) is pictured here making PHP's annual school donation of various school supply items to all elementary schools on Friday, September 11.

We thank all of our community partners for all of their ongoing support!
