ABE Participates in 6th Annual Service Learning Day
On Thursday, May 3,2018 Al Behrman Elementary School took part in their 6th annual Service Learning Day.  This program began six years ago with the purpose of teaching students about giving back to their community with no expectation of reward or payment.  You give back to the community because it provides for you.

It is held each year in the Spring, in honor of Al Behrman and all he gave our Al Behrman Elementary School (formerly South School)!  The entire staff and all 350 students traveled out to various sites in the Baraboo community to volunteer their time and provide services to a variety of community programs.  The students washed ambulances, cleared trails, cleaned up debris, and many other activities.

They also learned what services these programs offer to the community.  The following is a list of the sites the students volunteered at this year:  Fire Department, Baraboo Ambulance, Habitat for Humanity (ReStore), Humane Society, International Crane Foundation, Sauk County Fairgrounds, Hope House, Al Ringling Mansion, Oschners Park, St. Vincent dePaul Society/Food Pantry, St Clare Hospital, St. Clare Meadows, Prairie Restoration, Circus World, and Weber Park.

4K Schedules Make Up Days
Dear BELC (4K) Parents and Guardians:

We have certainly had some challenging weather in the last couple of months, especially this week.  I am hoping this will be our last communication to 4K parents regarding adding 4K minutes or days.

The Baraboo School District always includes two additional 4K days of instruction within our annual calendar.  Due to two school cancellations, three early dismissals, and five late starts this year, the District needs to add two more days to the 4K calendar to meet required Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction instructional minutes for 4K for the 2017-18 school year.  Here is a summary of the upcoming 4K schedule/calendar changes:
  • Starting on Monday, April 30, the AM 4K schedule will be 7:45-11:05 AM (instead of 7:55-11:05 AM) and will run up until our last day on Friday, June 1 (to makeup for April 16).
  • We are adding only AM 4K on Wednesday, May 16 (to makeup for April 19).
  • We have already added Wednesday, May 30 for both the AM and PM 4K classes .
The 4K calendar operates under a different set of rules compared to our K-12 classrooms with regard to instructional minutes.  Thank you all of your flexibility with these schedule changes and please do not hesitate to contact me if any questions should arise.

Yours in Education,

Dr. Chris Olson, BELC/West Principal or 608-355-3906
