Celebrating the Return of Specials!
The PTO is pumped to bring back a wide range of essential programs and enrichment classes that students missed out on for over a year. At Back to School Night, you may have heard your teachers refer to these classes as "specials" – and they are indeed! Most specials are PTO-funded programs that round out and complement the academic curriculum at Roy Cloud. They also bring a lot of joy to our students during the school day. Here's a quick preview:
Art from CSMA
We're excited to get our students' creative juices flowing again and welcome back the Arts4Schools program with returning teacher/artist, Ms. Atreyee Ghosh. Art enrichment will begin for all K-8 students on September 13th.
Garden from Climate Corps
Our Roy Cloud garden has been lonely! Continuing many years of success with the Climate Corps Garden Science program, we welcome our new Garden Fellow, Mr. Kevin Ha. He will start meeting classes in the garden on September 13th.
Music from CSMA
After success with CSMA's art program, the PTO is pleased to be piloting the Music4Schools program to serve students in grades K-3. Music lessons with Ms. Terrica Smith will begin in September. That's music to our ears!
Science from Scientists
Yay for hands-on science! Our Science from Scientists program returns in person this year with engaging lessons taught by practicing scientist, Ms. Esther Niemasik. The PTO-funded program serves all students in grades 3-5.
STEAM with Ms. Kwa
The PTO has partnered with the School Site Council to bring back our STEAM TOSA, Ms. Jessica Kwa. We know our students are excited to be experiencing Ms. Kwa's STEAM classes in person and especially to be joining her in the Makery!
PE with Legarza
We're so happy to have our Legarza credentialed PE coaches back in person to get our K-5 students moving and surpass the State's minimum requirement for physical education! Our Legarza coaches also help supervise recess and lunchtime.

Check Your Mailbox for Your Direct Donations Letter
This week, you should have received an important letter in the mail. During our Direct Donations campaign, the PTO asks all Roy families to donate what they can to support many of our essential school programs and help us Power Up to the same level as years past. Your donation brings us closer to our $250,000 campaign goal! Didn't receive your letter? View the Direct Donations Letter and print the donation form on page 2 to make your donation today!
You can also visit roycloudpto.com/donate at any time to make your donation and even sponsor a student. All donors, regardless of the amount, will receive our 2021-22 Roy Cloud car magnet as a token of appreciation. And remember, Roy Cloud PTO is a 501(C)3 nonprofit organization and you may be able to double your donation with corporate matching from your employers!

As we charge full steam ahead into the new school year, we are grateful for our parent community of volunteers. While parents are not allowed on campus at this time, there are many other ways to volunteer. Below we've listed a few important roles the PTO is still looking to fill.
Fundraising – We need committee members to lead and plan our two most important fundraising events, the Winter Auction and our Spring Jog-a-Thon. Contact [email protected] to get involved!
Communications – Want to help with the Thunderbolt or manage Directory Spot? Contact [email protected] to learn more. Also, a few classrooms are still looking for room parents. Contact Manja McMills if you're able to sign on as room parent for Mrs. Faulker, Mr. Tsivikas, or as the 6th grade parent liaison.
...And more – Looking to help out in other ways? Contact [email protected] to discover a perfect-fit volunteer opportunity!

Help! The Garden Needs Some TLC!
Our school garden has been taken over by nature in the time we've been away! We need some helping hands to get everything spruced up and ready for Garden Science classes to begin very soon. Please sign up to spend an hour or two cleaning up the garden on Saturday, September 11th between 9:30 am and 12:30 pm. Our garden and students thank you!

Workshop Education Returns to Roy Cloud
Workshop Education is back! Workshop has missed its student entrepreneurs and is super excited to return to the Roy Cloud campus for the 2021-22 school year. Their award-winning Study Skills & Innovation Workshop classes continue as the program's pillars. Emerging from the pandemic, Workshop will focus more than ever on executive functioning skills, life skills, hands-on learning activities, and enjoying the great outdoors. Park-Walk-Bike to School!
Want to avoid the traffic backup when dropping off and picking up your kids at Roy Cloud? Even walking just a block or two will have significant benefits. Bret Harte Drive on the Red Oak side and Seminole Way on the Jefferson side are great options for parking and walking. Crossing guards are available at three major intersections around school and bike racks are also available for kids that bike to school. The bike racks are in the middle quad, securely behind the new fencing. Students can stop by the office to open the gate if they arrive late to school. Find out more about safe routes for walking and biking to school.
