Vicar Amber's Sunday Message
“And the LORD changed his mind about the disaster that he planned to bring on his people.”
The Old Testament often gets a bad rap for portraying God in ways that make us uncomfortable. I have often heard people talk about God in the Old Testament as being angry, vengeful, or even cruel. The story of the Golden Calf seems to paint God such a way. God becomes angered by the Israelites’ act of idolatry – angry enough to want to destroy the people and make a great nation of Moses, instead. Yet, as often as God is portrayed as angry or upset, the God of the Old Testament is not beyond love or compassion. When Moses entreats God to not act out of anger, God changes God’s mind and does so. What does it do to our understanding of God if we recognize that God sometimes needs to struggle to love us, that God needs to work through anger before arriving at mercy? How does that make God’s love for us actually more profound?

Gracious God, we do not understand all of your ways. When we stray from you, bring us back to your ways. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Volunteers Needed!
Lazarus House Meal Prep & Delivery
The residents at Lazarus House are staying in a hotel in order to maintain physical distance. This change has brought new challenges for the LH staff. The idea this month is to prepare the Sunday dinner meal in your own home and then deliver it to Lazarus House between 4-6 pm. LH staff will then create individual meals (packed in food storage containers) from the food we deliver, and then bring these meals to the residents. LH still needs sack lunches, too! WONDERING...
REAL QUESTIONS FROM REAL PEOPLE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT GLC
What was at 301 South Third Street before the church building?
It is clear when you see the shops on Third Street that most of them have been converted from being homes. The Wilson House stood at 301 South Third as the construction of the church began in 1956, the layout of the building was 'L' shaped to allow the house to stand until late in the building process.
