REPENTANCE – THE MESSAGE OF THE HOUR
_________________
When John the Baptist came on the scene he had one message, and it was “Repent ye, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” [Matthew 3:2] The people had not heard a prophet for several hundreds of years, and it was refreshing when they heard him preach. Some thought he was the Messiah, but he called himself in Mtthew 3:3b, “…The voice of one crying in the wilderness, prepare ye the way of the LORD, make his paths straight.”
He did not try to be a people pleaser. In fact, when the Pharisees and Sadducees came to see him baptizing people, he called them a “generation of vipers.” [Matthew 4:7.] This in effect was calling the religious people of the day a bunch of snakes.
His message in Matthew 4:8 was, “Bring forth therefore fruits meet [suitable, showing] for repentance.”
In essence, he was letting them know that their long flowing robes, their beards cut a certain way, their tithes and offerings were just works. Their hearts were far from God. They needed a “heart change” which would require repenting of their sin.
The message of the hour we are living in now is still the same. John the Baptist was preparing the way for the first coming of Jesus Christ and we, the body of Christ must share that same message for the second coming of our Lord Jesus.
We must be bold enough to share, in love, when someone is in sin to bring them to the cross to repent. We must be bold enough to say that a lie is still a lie that needs to be repented of. We must be bold enough to say that fornication is a sin and those living a lifestyle of fornication will not enter heaven.
It is not my opinion. Revelation 21:8 tells us who will not be in heaven. It says, “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers [fornicators], and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
When you live a lifestyle of those things just mentioned with no regrets, you are in danger of eternal damnation. We must be brave enough to call sin, sin, and warn those in those lifestyles that they must repent before it is too late.
Repentance is the message of the hour.
