Faces of Faith this week: Lydia
Paul and his companions are looking for the local synagogue when they come to Philippi. They go to the water outside of town, knowing that water was required for their rituals of purification. They find women there, who welcome them and their message about Jesus as the fulfillment of God's promises. That's a great story, but they also welcome them after they've stirred up trouble in the city.
Mighty God, help us to welcome the message about Jesus, knowing that it stirs us and others outside of the places we are comfortable. In Jesus' name, Amen.

WONDERING...
Real questions from real people to learn more about faith
|
|
How do you know if it is the Holy Spirit calling you? When reading the book of Acts, it seems that the disciples move so confidently in the Spirit, but how do they know that it is the Holy Spirit? A few things to note, it usually calls them to difficult things, not just what they may want; it is usually affirmed by others, not just a personal encounter; but most importantly it aligns with God's promises to reach people to the ends of the earth.

The Celebration of Life for him (Al Schoenenberger), was so beautiful. Thank you! The liturgy was moving and comforting. Really helped me to pray for him and Aunt Bobbi, Eugene and Jacob. You welcomed everyone with great hospitality. Thanks again - it was a beautiful morning.
Yours sincerely in Christ, Mary Rose Cottingham
P.S. The church is gorgeous! I last remember being there for Al and Bobbi's wedding in 1965. I was very young (5) but remember parts of the day -- such a happy occasion.
