Faces of Faith this week: Eutychus

If you've ever felt guilty about your mind wandering during the sermon, Eutychus is your guy! He falls asleep during Paul's sermon (and falls out a window). Yet even Eutychus has something to teach us about being faithful, as do those who spring into action around him.

Gracious God, sometimes we just can't take in any more words or ideas. In our weariness, You speak new life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
WONDERING...
Real questions from real people to learn more about faith
Is it bad when I struggle to concentrate in church? When I say at the beginning of the service that I pray for you to get just what you need, sometimes I know it is a little more rest, or a good cup of coffee or a break from all of the demands on your life. It may be time to write your grocery list or answer an email that you read at a stop light. So is it bad when you can't concentrate? Bad doesn't seem like a helpful word when you are just trying to live life faithfully. Worship is YOUR time to connect with Christ—and that can happen in a multitude of ways.
GLC Kids!
Introducing New Coordinator of Children & Family Ministries
We welcome Michelle Lata as GLC's Coordinator of Children and Family Ministries! Michelle attended Valparaiso University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and earned a Master’s of Education in Organizational Development at Fairfield University in Connecticut. Michelle began her career at Loyola University Chicago where she worked in new student orientation and residence life. At GLC, she has served as a PDO instructor, volunteered at Sunday School, and coordinated family programs. Michelle lives with her husband Justin and their two children, Lukas (LJ) and Whitney, in Geneva. As members of GLC, the Latas enjoy the relationships they have built through volunteering weekly at St. Andrew and participating in Sunday school and VBC. Michelle is excited to connect with GLC families and become a part of the GLC staff!
Sunday School will resume September 19

GROUPS
Feed My Starving Children
Tuesday, September 7 @ 9 am
We're excited to be putting together a group to pack meals at FMSC's facility in Aurora on Tuesday, September 7, 9-10:30 am! We'll hand-pack rice, soy, dried vegetables and a nutritionally complete blend of vitamins and minerals into bags to feed the neediest children around the world! Before signing up, please read FMSC COVID safety measures. If interested in volunteering, contact Martha Sobie by Tuesday, August 31.

We lift up in prayer
  • For children, families, teachers, staff, and administrators as school resumes
  • For those preparing for college or empty nests
  • For the people who continue to share the message of Jesus' love with us
  • For our council and finance team as they prepare the budget for next year
  • For each of us as we try to understand what God is calling us to do
  • For hospitality in welcoming the stirring of God's work in us
We surround with our prayers the family of Lisa and Damon Kanzler following the death of Lisa's dad, Garry Leddy, on Thursday, August 19.
Prayer List
To add a name to the prayer list, please email Amy Steenson or call (630) 232-0165. Names will remain on the list for two weeks.

News from our former intern!
Amber Kalina has been assigned to the Northwest Minnesota Synod (her home Synod-see Map). She will now begin interviewing with congregations. When she has a call, she will plan for ordination. This process can take many months. Please keep Amber and all seminary graduates seeking calls in your prayers.
