New Masking Guidelines: Kane County Covid transmission rates are now in the 'substantial' range which means that the CDC strongly urges all people, regardless of vaccination status, to wear masks indoors. We have always followed CDC guidelines, so we will continue to do so. We will continue to offer worship on our current schedule, knowing that there is usually plenty of space to spread out. All of it is part of following the mandate Jesus gives in the Gospel of John to love one another as God has loved us. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation! If you have any questions contact the council: glccouncil@genevalutheran.org

Faces of Faith this week: Mary Magdalene
Who is Mary Magdelene? There are shows on the History Channel about her, and she is featured in books by Dan Brown. Some say she is a prostitute, others make all kinds of assumptions about the demons that possessed her. The Bible actually says very little about her, but what it does say can be VERY helpful for us in figuring out how we can follow Jesus.
Good and gracious God, how often are we misunderstood and how often do we misunderstand others? Help us to focus on growing in our discipleship, to learn about faith from people like Mary, and to teach others through our witness. In Jesus' name, Amen.

WONDERING...
Real questions from real people to learn more about faith
|
|
Why is everything so weird right now? There are a series of passages described as 'end times' scriptures. Here's one from the Gospel of Luke: 'There will be signs in the sun and the moon and the stars and on earth distress among nations confused by the roaring of the sea and the waves. People will faint from fear and foreboding of what is coming upon the world.' Luke 21: 25-26 This is something Jesus said just before he was crucified. The cross might be the first time it felt true to His followers, and it has happened over and over since. The early Christians in the Roman Empire felt it. Martin Luther and the reformers felt it. Our ancestors here felt it as they went through one war to end all wars followed by another. It is easy to get caught up in the pain of all of it, the darkness...and then...verse 27 promises the Son of Man coming, encouraging us to raise our heads and celebrate redemption. Jesus will accompany us through it all, and lead us through the challenges and into the life He promises.
