WHO DO YOU SAY I AM?
Throughout Jesus ministry as he cast out demons, invariably they would say to him this, as in Luke 5:34 “Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? Art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God.” Jesus would tell them to “hold their peace” (shut up) because it was not the time for him to be called the Holy One, or Messiah.
Who you believe Jesus is, is of utmost importance in your life. Many, even in the mainline churches, think he was a good man, maybe a prophet, but many do not believe that He is God in the flesh. Only God can save a person from sin. Therefore, if your sins are forgiven through Jesus Christ and His shed blood, he must be God.
Jesus spent three and a half years with his disciples, and they didn’t understand his purpose in coming. In Luke 9:18 He asks His disciples, “Whom say the people that I am?” The response was “John the Baptist, Elijah, one of the old prophets.” He goes to say, “Whom say YE that I am?” Peter responds with, “The Christ of God.” Christ is not Jesus’ last name. Christ means the anointed one. Jesus is “the Christ”, the anointed one, God in the flesh, all man and all God that came to save us from our sin.
No man born from Adam is sinless. We all have inherited a sin nature because of Adam’s fall. Jesus did not have the seed of Adam in his blood, and therefore was free of sin. He was tempted like we are, but never gave in to sin. It had to be sinless blood shed to pay for our guilty blood. Only He could do that.
If you believe that Jesus is indeed the “Christ”, God in the flesh, then you can receive salvation of your sin through him. Only God can forgive your sin, and that is what He wants to do.
You must believe He is God in the flesh, then repent of your sin and ask Him to be your Savior, and Jesus, God in the flesh, will do that. No one else can.
