Heidi Kumar and Sarah Speir, Cultural Orientation & ESL Education Coordinators with Refugee Resettlement Services, CCCAS, are hosting a training and information session on

Friday, December 6 from 10am-12pm.

We have ALL of the resources in place for volunteers to lead Cultural Orientation (CO) and to help teach ESL (English as a Second Language). We are seeking members of the Erie community between the ages of 18 – 80 who are interested in interacting with our newly arrived clients in a welcoming way that also provides these highly needed resources for them to navigate their new American community.

It is an amazing environment to practice, learn or sharpen your interests and skills in intercultural communication, teaching and community building.

We will focus on the skills and resources available and needed for assisting with teaching ESL and facilitating the required Cultural Orientation sessions required by all new refugee families (adults) within their first 90 days in the U.S.   Heidi will also address additional involvement needs – donations, housing, transport, etc.  We will also address the potential and already occurring backlash within the larger community due to the current political climate and change in US administration.

We are especially in need of folks available during December and January as we are currently receiving many new arrivals. Our classes are held from 9:30-11:00am, and 11:30 – 1:00pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in the classrooms of our building and agency, at the old St. Stans School, 507 E. 12th Street.

We hope you can join us!

Dear Temple Anshe Hesed community,

Thank you for supporting my Bat Mitzvah project! Our temple community collected over 100 coats for the unhoused population at the Upper Room. My family and I brought the donations to the Upper Room last Saturday and they were very thankful. I am hopeful these coats will keep people warm this winter. Thank you, again for your donations and helping me do a mitzvah.

Please save your paper towel rolls for a TempleHood crafting night! Feel free to give them to Korlyn, Fran, Ellie, or leave them in the office.

The City of Erie strongly desires to bridge our past with our present, allowing us to learn from and appreciate the history that shaped our community.

Over the last several years the Department of Planning and Neighborhood Resources secured state and federal grant funding to support a citywide historic resources survey. Other smaller surveys were performed in recent years, however, those surveys focused on prominent homes and structures. The Citywide Historic Resources Survey encompasses all historic buildings, landscapes, and neighborhoods.

We invite the public to share their stories on Erie's places, spaces, landscapes, events, and people to help enrich our cultural tapestry.
