Dr. Helen J. Kohn, MD Psychiatrist, age 82, of Erie, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2025 at Nightingale Nursing and Rehabilitation.


She is a member of the Jewish faith and unfortunately does not have any family or friends in the area.


Please join us in the special mitzvah of honoring Dr. Kohn by attending her graveside service at Anshe Hesed Cemetery on

Wednesday, February 26th at 11:30am.

Dr. Kohn's Obituary:

Dr. Helen J. Kohn, MD Psychiatrist, age 82, of Erie, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2025 at Nightingale Nursing and Rehabilitation.


She was born on November 29, 1942, in Pittsburgh, Helen was the daughter of the late Percy (PK) and Matilda Jones.


Helen was a respected analyst in the field of psychology, known for her keen insight and compassionate approach. Her career was marked by her deep commitment to helping others understand and navigate the complexities of the human mind. She earned her undergraduate degree from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh and went on to receive her master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh, and served her residency at the University of Cincinnati, where she laid the foundation of her successful career.


Outside of her professional life, Helen was a proud mother and a woman of many interests. She was especially passionate about her home, taking great pride in the work she did to make it a fully solar-powered and energy-efficient. Her dedication to sustainability reflected her caring and thoughtful nature.


She is survived by her sons, Robert Tucker; Richard Tucker, and Benjamin Kohn. Her legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched as a psychologist.


A private service will be held in her memory. Burial in Anshe Hesed Cemetery with Rabbi Rob Morais officiating.

J. Leonard Ostrow Award for High School Students and Adults


The J. Leonard Ostrow Fund was established in 1980 to emulate the life and legacy of Attorney J. Leonard Ostrow. The purpose of this fund is to perpetuate his memory and challenge another generation to emulate his contributions, encourage humanitarian efforts, and develop leadership capabilities, as exemplified by his life.


This newly revised award is now open to high school students and adults from both Temple Anshe Hesed and Brith Sholom. This unique award is a quarterly award, and may be used for a trip to Israel, other travel, or Jewish studies, which may include tuition, conferences, leadership development, or other Jewish experiences.


The application and additional information about the award are available using the link below, with the third award period from January 1 - February 15, 2025, with notification by March 15, 2025.
