NEW ZOOM CLASS FOR THE EPIPHANY SEASON
Why do we worship the way that we do? Why do we have a confession? Why do we say the creed? What if I don't believe ALL of the creed? How are hymns chosen? We will gather on Zoom on five cold Thursday evenings to explore these questions through a focus on the parts of the worship: Gather, Word, Meal, and Sending—and a bonus class on music in worship. Come for one class or all!
Classes: January 20, 27, Feb 3, 10 & 17
Join live on ZOOM Thursdays at 7 pm or watch on YouTube any time later.

Because of the generosity of church folk, all churches have to deal with scammers sending emails and texts that appear to be from your pastor or other church staff using emails and numbers they create. GLC is no exception! Know that no member of church staff will send cryptic pleas for help and then ask you to buy gift cards. Ever. All collections or fund drives will be communicated through the e-newsletter and other official communication channels from the church. If you are ever in doubt about whether a request is really from GLC, just give a call on the church land line number (630-232-0165) and we'll be happy to clear it up! Thanks for your generosity and alertness!

Another Way to Donate to GLC!
Exciting news! There is yet another convenient way to donate to GLC. While watching the livestream worship service you will notice a blue box with a flower icon and the word ‘Give’ in the upper right corner of your screen. Click on the box and two different fund options will appear along the right side: the General Fund and the Building Fund. Choose which fund you’d like to donate to and follow the directions from there. Your payment method is added by saving it when you submit your transaction. Please contact Lisa Kanzler 331-248-6699 with questions.

***The Annual GLC Women's Retreat has been cancelled out of concern for the safety and well being of all those who may have participated. Look for another uplifting retreat in 2023! Please direct questions to Karen Bentson.

WHAT'S HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND
At GLC we are aware of the current COVID surges in our community. We are also aware that being able to worship can help us get through trying times. For this reason, we will continue to offer our service schedule: 5 pm Saturday, 9 and 10:30 am on Sunday. We will also continue to Livestream the 9 am service so that you can enjoy the service from home if you have symptoms or have tested positive for COVID or are vulnerable due to other medical issues. We will continue to wear masks, encourage spacing, and have shorter services.

Let the wine flow! But it may not be what you think. The news is filled up with stories of scarcity...there's not enough of many things. Scarcity drives us to grab extra toilet paper while we are in the store, to feel threatened by other people, and maybe to fill a glass with wine with a hope to forget, even for a little while. Those serving at the wedding in the story we'll hear from John's Gospel know the wine is gone. They begin to panic. But where the world sees not enough, Jesus shows abundance. What can this look like in your life this week?
Generous God, we struggle to see enough in the world. Open our eyes to see the abundance of Your work in our lives. In Jesus' name, Amen.

This is a thank you for the services online. At times this past year and a half it was the only service available for me. I am certain it has had a huge positive impact on many of your parishioners as well as those of us even out of state like me! I can never repay the true value of this online service....Sincerely, Caroline Forster (Colleen Skifstad's mom)

WONDERING...
Real questions from real people to learn more about faith
Does God hate anyone? This question is from one of our students confirmed in October. Our best way to understand God is to use our human terms, but our words are pretty limited in terms of how to describe how God feels or thinks. So we look at the stories in Scripture and we see a God who is patient, who lets the people experience the consequences of their actions, who gets angry, but over and over again, God's final word is to love and forgive. Jesus showed us this profoundly through his life and death. What if we also took hate out of our vocabulary?

This faithful group cannot be stopped! Look at all that produce and pumpkins (Yes, we were surprised to see those too!) that were bagged for the St. Andrew food distribution. #generouslifeinChrist

We're grateful for our youth student helpers Sami and Forrest who serve our little children at Sunday School. But do you think we can get these guys some bigger chairs? #generouslifeinChrist
