TONIGHT!
House Blessing on Facebook Live
Thursday, January 6 @ 7 pm
The feast of the Epiphany is celebrated on January 6. It marks the arrival of the magi at the home where Jesus lived (he was about 2 years old by this time!). In celebration of this, Christians have a long history of doing a home blessing to welcome Jesus to our homes. Pastor Trudy will lead you through a brief home blessing from her home on January 6 at 7 pm on Facebook Live. If you like, have a candle ready and a piece of chalk (or a piece of paper, tape, and writing implement will do!). Enjoy this special tradition!

WHAT'S HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND
At GLC we are aware of the current COVID surges in our community. We are also aware that being able to worship can help us get through trying times. For this reason, we will continue to offer our service schedule: 5 pm Saturday, 9 and 10:30 am on Sunday. We will also continue to Livestream the 9 am service so that you can enjoy the service from home if you have symptoms or have tested positive for COVID or are vulnerable due to other medical issues. We will continue to wear masks, encourage spacing, and have shorter services.

Here we are again...back at the Jordan river with John the Baptist, this time with the promised One appearing. The One looks just like everyone else; stepping into the water in the wilderness, invited there by John who calls them to do better, to share, to not take more than they need, to repentance. Jesus steps out of the waters and begins to call people out of life as they knew it. As we begin a new year, where are you called to follow Jesus out of the waters of baptism and into a new life?
God of each day, month, and year, our calendar doesn't matter to You, our orientation toward following Jesus does. May the turn of the calendar remind us of Your continued presence and Your continued call to follow Jesus, in whose name we pray. Amen.

On behalf of The Salvation Army Tri-City Corps, we want to thank you for your generous donations to our Angel Tree Program this year. As you know, there has been a greater need this year because of Covid-19, and your gifts will help some children have a happier Christmas.
Sincerely, Scott and Dena Smith, Lieutenant Corps Officers

WONDERING...
Real questions from real people to learn more about faith
Why do good things happen to bad people and bad things happen to good people? This question from one of our students confirmed in October is one variation on THE most common question Christians ask. And I'm afraid no matter how many times I answer it, it seems my answer just doesn't satisfy our human brains that like categories. God just doesn't look at things like that. Things happen. Some of those things are very difficult. Other things we enjoy. We name things good or bad based on how they feel to us in the moment. Sometimes we can see that it is more complicated simply by widening the lens and seeing the struggles of the people who made our delicious treat or fun experience possible. Sometimes it takes time to realize that important learnings came from a time of struggle. Other times we never get to know the full impact or reason behind something. What this question really is about is God...who doesn't just hang out waiting to zap you with bad or good things. Instead God shows throughout the stories in the Bible that he will be with us, shining light into things we struggle to see, giving comfort when we are afraid and showing us all of the gifts we have to help others.
