Unraveling of the Mind
In Mark 5:1-20, the focus of the story is on a man possessed by a legion of unclean spirits. The spirits make the man bruise himself, wander in the cemetery outside of the city limits, and howl night and day. Any reader of the story might think the theme of “Unraveling of the Mind” must refer to this man. However, when stressors become too much to bear or when we pour out more energy than we have, our own minds become susceptible to unraveling. When we are at our wits’ end, how does Jesus meet us where we are?
Gracious Lord, our lives can often push us into the place of burnout and exhaustion. Lend us your strength when we encounter hardships that are too much for us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

WONDERING...
REAL QUESTIONS FROM REAL PEOPLE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT GLC
|
Why do we call pastoral interns 'Vicar'?
For one, it is important to learn to be referred to by a title, helping to remember the role to serve. Even more, though, the internship year is a bridge between 'book-learning' and serving as a pastor in a parish. A title helps to name the space between. You are a leader, testing what you've learned, developing new muscles, claiming gifts. Vicar comes from the Latin 'vicarious' which means substitute, deputy, proxy which helps to understand the almost, but not yet, nature of this year. Be praying for Vicar Amber, give her abundant space to move and grace to try things and learn. And our congregation will learn, too!

The live stream will continue, but we are also committed to trying new things and learning as we continue to live into the realities of the pandemic.
